I'm not
surprised by anybody but Mijares. I wonder if maybe they want to see if he deserves a spot on the 40-man roster next year. I doubt that is the case, becuase that’s the type of move a non-contending team makes, not a team just a half-game back.
We’ll see…

I like Mijares being called up.
Lefty power arm, see what he can do. Maybe we catch lightning in a bottle and make Reyes expendable. It only costs us a month of service time, no?

Reyes can get a job with any big-league team
You don’t like a guy with a .90 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 10 innings pitched during Twins Bullpen Hell August 2008, when the Twins needed help? 9 baserunners allowed in that span. Good luck if Mijares can match that.

It's not that I don't like Reyes...
He’s been solid this year. It’s a matter of next year. Reyes is a FA after this year, and I expect he’ll demand much more than the $1M he’s making this year. It will depend on the price. I suspect he may demand closer to $4M than $1M next year.
Give Mijares a taste of the bright lights, see what we may have for next year. I’m not saying we should stick him into 8th inning crunch time, but what does it hurt? I’d rather have Mijares up than Gomez or Barrett.

Jorgenson and Mijares are Head Scratchers
Surprised it was Drew Butera and Mariano Gomez/Ricky Barret

The Twins
probably didn’t want to start service time on any of those guys. That’s the most likely scenario, and considering how much of an impact any of them could have/will have in the month of September, why start the clock ticking? It’s the smart move.
