Johnny Canuck for MVP
Ladies and gentlemen, your attention please. Now speaking on behalf of the Johnny Canuck for MVP campaign is a man that knows a little something about playing first base and winning Most Valuable Player awards in Minnesota — Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew!
Thank you.
Being an MVP takes accountability and dependability. Being the one that everybody turns to when times get tough, when their backs are against the wall isn’t an easy burden, but some are at their best when all the chips are on the table, and Justin Morneau has demonstrated, time and again the necessary results and required qualities of an MVP.

Yuck
Baseball, at it’s core is about two things — run production and run reduction. Only one player in the American League has a higher combination of runs scored and runs batted in than Justin Morneau’s 205 (…)
Is this really the best we can come up with?
Hurf
Oh lawd, did I stumble into an ESPN FanPoll comment section or something? Yeesh.

Sorry, I should have elaborated
As Eric in Madison remarks below, there are actually a number of genuine arguments backing up Morneau’s MVP case this year. There’s no reason to drag the discussion down to the AVG-Runs-RBI level, because we know better.
Actually, there's a better argument for him
this year than there was in 2006, when he was the third best player on his own team.
This year, he leads the AL in win shares (in a down year for great seasons). This is in large part due to his brilliance with runners in scoring position, which, while not predictive, is very valuable. Mauer also has a good argument, but won’t win.
