It's too bad
That Bass started yesterday for the Orioles. I would’ve liked to have seen the Twins knock him around a little bit, as payback for all the meatballs he served up this year.
I disagree slightly
Bass could potentially be a decent 4th or 5th started. As I’ve stated before, last year in AAA Bass was quite good as a starter and quite poor as a reliever. He found his groove starting mainly in the second half. The Twins put him back in relief and expected the same results. I’m glad he’s getting a shot starting, and all things considered he pitched pretty decently yesterday for his first start at the major league level. He got more ground outs than flyball outs and he only ended up giving up 1 earned run. He has a sinker/fastball that he can throw 90-94mph, a good slider and a workable change. At one point he even had a curve I guess. I wish him all the best and hope he can make a career for himself as a 4th or 5th starter. I here there’s good money in that these days…
Gardenhire's major league career: Banjo hitting, futility infielder who couldn't lick it.
Rick Anderson's major league career: Strikethrower who never made it happen with his sub 90's fastball.
Really gives a new definition to living vicariously through other people, don't it?

Say what you will about the dome...
but we would be playing baseball right now if Baltimore had one.
Of course...
they’d be playing outdoors in Minnesota tonight if the game was here and the Twins played in a ballpark rather than a football stadium. In fact, last year through most of the playoffs, when it was snowing in Colorado and raining in Cleveland, they could have played outdoor baseball here quite comfortably.
Outdoor baseball: Get used to it.

I was used to outdoor baseball when they play at the Met.
Now, it just a strip mall wanting to be mega mall. I am anxious for the new stadium and so … I am over it, as you say….
I'd be in favor of it.
But it’s hard to say. There might be some aging free agent on the decline that we pick up like every other year.
Depends on what we can find
I’d like to see us address 3B and SS this offseason, in addition to the bullpen of course. Considering we have Harris and Buscher, I’d say SS would be a higher priority. The pickings are slim in FA SS, Furcal about the only one I’d like. Hudson or Ellis at 2B perhaps, moving Casilla to SS.

Beer Bear is right - Save the Dome
I write a blog about baseball and one of my entries was a defense of the Metrodome.
Would love to hear a Twins fan take on it
It’s here
Thanks a bunch
Point of Order, sully
I think Beer Bear wants the Dome to go.

Metrodome
From a fans standpoint, it’s like watching baseball in a huge warehouse. The environment is very stale. From a players standpoint, it’s often been referred to as playing baseball on green cement with a camouflaged ball. I honestly don’t think the Twins would have any more postponed games then most other teams. After june Minnesota doesnt get much rain, and the fall games would feel great outside, especially playoff games. The Metrodome has it’s memories but personally I can’t wait to see professional baseball the way it was meant to be played.

Odd Notes
Cabrera now has more walks than the entire Twins starting staff combined.

No
White Sox games today. Both have been postponed. They’ll try to do a double-header tomorrow, but it looks like the entire weekend could be lost.

Nice two-bagger
But two left in scoring position.
by Alexi Casilla All-Star on Sep 13, 2008 5:17 PM EDT reply actions
Yeah
but a pretty good inning with just one hit. Hopefully we can keep getting on with walks.

Two hard hit balls for outs
And then Mora hits a hard grounder between Morneau and Casilla.
by Alexi Casilla All-Star on Sep 13, 2008 5:22 PM EDT reply actions
Baker
is struggling after the first two outs. They say he will go one three-days rest if he feel fine. The rotation is messed up with no off-days and the only other options would be Humber or Bonser.

Three straight hits
Tied with two on and two out.
by Alexi Casilla All-Star on Sep 13, 2008 5:27 PM EDT reply actions
First two
hitters go down on five pitched and then he ends up with 17 after three singles and a run (plus that last out was almost a homerun).

Just some things...
…for those that didn’t see.
- Morneau will DH in game two.
- Cuddyer can play today, but sill not starts.
- Mauer will not start the second game.
- I think it’ll be 25 minutes inbetween games.
- FSN will pick up coverage at 6 CT.

I was
wondering the same thing. I think Ruiz can…
by Twins Territory on Sep 13, 2008 5:42 PM EDT up reply actions
Buscher can play first also
But they should start Ruiz if he can play first, Ruiz hasnt hit in like 2 weeks
And
a hit for Casilla. Lets make this a big inning…

Double
for Morneau; 3-1 Twins. RBI number 121 on the season.

Young's catch of the second out in the second
The ball was hit pretty deep (edge of the track) and toward left center. Young angled back and caught the ball on his backhand side. It looked really unusual. He didn’t seem to misjudge the ball, but stayed on his backhand. Does this have something to do with his ankle? Or is he just a bad OF? He never looks smooth out there, but he has caught everything out there today.

Jon Miller
Is crucifying Cabrera. 1) He’s lost velocity. 2) He has become hittable. 3) He keeps walking and hitting guys, throwing too many pitches—and, oh yeah, wild pitches and 4) he hurts himself defensively as with missing the bag on the DP oppoertunity.
by Alexi Casilla All-Star on Sep 13, 2008 5:56 PM EDT reply actions
Walking
guys really doesn’t help him. He has more than our staff, that can’t be good. It’d be interesting to see how many of his ER are from walks. Anybody know where to find that stat?

Just watched
the Morneau double. Just missed number 24.

Baker
hasn’t been great. 22 Strikes and 20 Balls thus far.
by Twins Territory on Sep 13, 2008 6:02 PM EDT reply actions
Yeah
He won’t reach 30 HR, but his average is over .310 and he is right there in the RBI race. He should be a true MVP candidate.

mlb.tv
the audio is from the radio. I guess that is done when there is video, but no TV broadcast.
by Alexi Casilla All-Star on Sep 13, 2008 6:03 PM EDT reply actions
They might
change it at 6 CT. FOX has a deal with MLB that allows no games until then on Saturdays so everybody has to wait.

A lot of fans
Disguised as empty seats. Of course it is the opener of a doubleheader.

A hit for Payton
Two on and two out. Baker has not been sharp so far.

Mauer
Leads off the fifth with a single to center. Morneau follows with a single to left.

Young
Swings at first pitch—GDP.

Called third for Roberts
The ump is not calling low strikes, but is giving a bit on higher pitches.
by Alexi Casilla All-Star on Sep 13, 2008 6:34 PM EDT reply actions
Punto
Looks like he needs a day off. He hasn’t hit the ball hard for awhile.
by Alexi Casilla All-Star on Sep 13, 2008 6:41 PM EDT reply actions
Back to back walks
Punto worked his walk. Gomez didn’t (four pitches) and he didn’t get much help from the ump (two of the pitches looked like strikes).

Yeah, pretty sleepy around here
You’re making a valiant effort to keep it going, though!
Bases Loaded--One out
Casilla grounds into a DP. He was safe at first, but the DP was awarded for Span’s take-out slide, where he went at Fahey. Good call, and it should have been called that way.

Twins are definitely letting the O's hang around.
In both of the last two innings they GDPed with a runner on third.
by Alexi Casilla All-Star on Sep 13, 2008 6:55 PM EDT reply actions
Baker squeezed
On two straight pitches. I thought the 2-2 definitely was a strike and the 3-2 was borderline.
by Alexi Casilla All-Star on Sep 13, 2008 6:58 PM EDT reply actions
I like how the Orioles announcers keep calling Buscher "Butcher"
Although that does describe his work at third base.
I see why no one is here
There is a “fresh” thread started on today’s game. Also, mlb.tv has the Oriole TV broadcast.
