Double-Header Recap
On a day of double headers...it's the community recap!
1. Are you satisfied with the ultimate outcome of either of these contests?
2. How would you grade the performances of the starting pitchers?
3. On a scale of 1 to 10, how much did the bullpen scare you today?
4. Who were your three stars for game one, and game two?
5. Would you have given Michael Cuddyer a larger role today?
6. Who's the ace of the Twins rotation: Scott Baker or Francisco Liriano? Maybe someone else? Why?
7. Justin Morneau for MVP!! (That's not a question, but feel free to disagree.)
8. It was nice to see the Twins take some walks today. Is there any way the patience and pitch selection of guys like Joe Mauer, Denard Span and Justin Morneau is catching on?
Tomorrow I'll be starting a series, marking off the organization's top prospects at each position. I'm not sure which position I'll start with, but considering the minor leagues are pretty much wrapped up for the summer I thought it would be a good time to start to evaluate the current state of the farm system.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

10 runs and a starter that can't go 5?
Way to let it run down your leg, Perkins. That was just headcase awful.
Thanks for the bump up in the draft.
Please, come again.
My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver
Ass kicking
You should be proud.

Obviiously an excellent day
It seems as if we’re getting some separation among the starters—Baker, Liriano, and Slowey are the clear top 3 now, and Baker was very good today. Would have gone another inning, I suspect, if they didn’t plan to start him on 3 days rest on Wednesday.
I’m so impressed by Span. Consistently good at bats, a broad base of skills. It will be interesting to see what happens in the off-season and how they handle the outfield next year.
Morneau has a much better MVP argument this year then he did in 2006.

I love pounding the opponents but...
…let’s be realistic about BO (Baltimore Orioles…even though they stink). They are 3-17 in their last 20 and that is nasty bad play. I’d like to see the Twins start to win some of those 3-2/4-3 games, which seem to keep slipping away before Nathan has a chance to even enter the game. They need to tighten things up a bit (IMHO).
"I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. See, my mule don't like people laughing. He gets the crazy idea you're laughing at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it . . ."

I disagree
I Orioles haven’t been all that great as of late, but I wouldn’t say it was all-around bad play. In fact, I’d say it was just Perkins. The offense did what it’s suppose to do, Baker looked great and the bullpen stepped in an pitch six scoreless innings in the second game.

Well
Perkins struggled, but that’ll happen, and I don’t expect it to happen so I’m not tooooo worried about it. Plus we won the game.
Also the bullpen also scares me, whether it’s a 10 run lead or a 1 run lead, so whatever, they didn’t blow it…good job to them.
We won, and our offense showed up big, which I like to see.
P.S. Morneau for MVP
Last night...
Being local to Baltimore, I was able to catch both games in person last night…to answer your questions…
1. Obviously, yes! We appeared to be really loose out there. Helps to be playing the O’s.
2. Baker: B. Gutted through 6 innings, the O’s lineup is better than you might think. Didn’t like the 3 walks, but 7 baserunners over 6 innings is ok. 3-11 GB-FB will get him hurt in the future though. A bit lucky. Perkins: D. He just doesn’t seem to have much out there, dead arm for the past 4 games. Very concerning.
3. About a 4. They were ok, but not great. Fortunately, we were able to rest Nathan, Guerrier and Crain.
4. Game 1: ***Span, Morneau, *Gomez, HM: Mijares (just because, nice debut!)
Game 2: *Tolbert, **Breslow, *Harris
5. Nope. With Gomez on a hot streak, we don’t need to play Cuddyer until he’s a lot closer to 100%. Need to play him early enough that he’s shapr for the last week or two though…
6. Liriano. Followed by Baker and Slowey, 2a and 2b. Blackburn is the #4, Perkins now the #5, although he may need to be moved to the bullpen as the innings may have caught up to him.
7. I chanted MVP any chance I would last night!
8. I’d like to think it was a matter of the Twins hitters being more patient, but it may just be the O’s pitchers. As a staff, they have given up by far the most walks in the majors (641, next worst is SF at 596). We have given up by far the fewest (356, next best CLE at 398).
