No runs for the Indians

in the first. They got a hit, but the next pitch hit into a DP.

Good one!

That can replace number 4, which was sort of an obvious call anyway…

Nice start

for Baker. He needs to go deep today and hopefully the offense won’t strand 23 runners today.

by Twins Territory on Sep 28, 2008 2:12 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

1-2-3 for Baker.

Let’s go, offense!

by Neil on Sep 28, 2008 2:16 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I'd love to see

Justin break out of his doldrums in a BIG way.

A couple quick runs could further deflate the Sox.

Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room.

1-0 Indians

Peralta homers in the second. No out.

No, Jesse

That’s good!

I just hope

Bullington does a good job for the Tribe.

Come on Morneau

Good job Morneau

If they don’t give you a pitch, don’t swing. Let’s see Kubes do some damage.

This inning

1-1 in Chicago

Konerko just hit his third homerun in the past two games.

by Twins Territory on Sep 28, 2008 2:29 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

And then a

double for Griffey. I don’t have a good feeling about that game. Unless the Indians go crazy on offense.

It feels like the Indians and Royals are battling for the division title

by PJS on Sep 28, 2008 2:35 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

This is silly

and Joe C. should be ashamed if he doesn’t vote for Lee because he didn’t go today. Did you complain that Grienke didn’t start for the Royals yesterday?

by Eric in Madison on Sep 28, 2008 2:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'm not sure it's the same thing...

Lee is a Cy Young pitcher, and more than anything, I think he wanted to make sure his last start wasn’t a loss or a poor outing. If he doesn’t pitch, nothing can go wrong.

Damn Punto

All weekend long we’ve been swinging at terrible pitches and watching strikes. Why have we been so bad at baseball this weekend?

by rencito on Sep 28, 2008 3:18 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

The Indians are trying to hand the White Sox the game too. They just started something again and the guy got picked off. And the hitter had a full count and walked the next pitch.

Buehrle

has 80 pitches after five.

Why do we continue to start Gomez?

Why not Span in CF and Cuddyer in RF?

by rencito on Sep 28, 2008 3:19 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Gomez saves plenty of runs in CF

Also, Cuddyer is about as miserable at the plate as Gomez.

Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room.

by PJS on Sep 28, 2008 3:20 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Gomez

I think Span is actually better. Gomez has a little better range, but Span isn’t as reckless.

Yes, Cuddyer has struggled. But you can’t be worse than Gomez. At least Cuddyer can put the ball in the air when we need it.

De ja vu

This is reminding me of yesterday…we can’t get anything going. I think Baker is going to need a shutout today.

by rencito on Sep 28, 2008 3:20 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Cuddyer?

He’s clearly not in baseball shape. plus Gomez has had some big hits lately if you havent noticed. Not to mention the defensive advantages

by .mnqwerd on Sep 28, 2008 3:21 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

actually a huge reason we swept the White Sox.

I wonder if the Twins make the playoffs

will he be our 8th inning guy?

from what I’ve seen I’d rather have him over Crain or Matty G

Baker

Only 99 pitches and it’s the last game of the season… He pitched 7 innings of 4 hit ball… let the man pitch.

This is NOT the time for Mijares tryouts

Lowrey threw 7 no-break 91 mph fastballs to the same location and all Gomez can do is pop out in foul territory/?

which would be shocking

Ive spent a lot of time in NY and they already use a lot of fbombs in normal conversation. At least in Queens and the Bronx and Long Island – Manhatten not so much.

after missing the playoffs 2 yrs in a row

I’d think there would be a spike in them.

Mauer

Does that hit clinch the battle title for him?

by Hoya on Sep 28, 2008 5:14 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Not nessicarily..

Pedroia has another game to play and Mauer might have to play tuesday.

by eric_johnson15 on Sep 28, 2008 5:15 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

oh right

I forgot that they’re playing a doubleheader today. does a one game playoff count for the regular season stats?

by Hoya on Sep 28, 2008 5:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

And Morneau still can't buy a hit

Inning over. But it’s 6-0, and fangraphs now gives the twins 100% chance of victory.

Twins Win!

now we all need to root root for the Tigers…

maybe watch some Magnum PI, listen to KISS, whatever it take to get them the win

Come on Tigres!

by caluofmn on Sep 28, 2008 5:29 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Ok

Ok, on we go, the only race undecided.

We really blew our big shot here. The Tigers don’t have much to play for tomorrow, and the White Sox get that game, and then the hypothetical playoff game both in their park.

Based on the way the Sox have been managing their staff, we’d see Danks in a hypothetical playoff game. Danks is a young lefty having a good year, but he’s just coming off a terrible outing and he’d be pitching on three days of rest in this game. Also, oddly enough, this year he’s had a reverse platoon split, so that many bode well for our lefty hitters. We’ve also hammered him all 4 times we’ve faced him this year.

But obviously, all that goes out the window on any given day.

Tomorrow Floyd is pitching against Freddy Garcia, with Floyd on 3 days of rest (their entire staff has been running on that this time through), so let’s hope it just doesn’t come to all that.

"You can't sit on a lead and run a few plays into the line and just kill the clock. You've got to throw the ball over the damn plate and give the other man his chance. That's why baseball is the greatest game of them all."
