From a Sox fan, I'd like to see a winner take all, knock-down, drag-out game to determine the AL Central Champion

I think it would be great entertainment if the Twins and Sox play tomorrow.

Of course, I’d like to see the Sox come out on top, but regardless, it would be fun to watch.

this isn't hard. you live in a port city. and you're a slut. do the math. -larry

It would be better enertainment for Twins fans

if the game was at the Metrodome. A game on the road to determine the season (especially at USCF) does not sound like fun.

Hopefully Freddy Garcia can remember he used to be a big leauge pitcher so it can be avoided.

As a side note, I think SSS is probably the funniest board on SB Nation.

must be b/c you are a fan of Chicago

you’d think having the Twins travel to Chicago is the best entertainment.

I’m just fine w/ Detroit winning today and not playing Chicago again until 2009

by caluofmn on Sep 29, 2008 2:41 PM EDT up reply actions

I can see where you are coming from

and in a sense, the knock-down, drag-out games occurred at the Metrodome last week, and we all know how that turned out (doh!).

I think it would be a good game and very entertaining, regardless of outcome.

this isn't hard. you live in a port city. and you're a slut. do the math. -larry

I would be extremely pumped for a game like that

if it was in the Dome but like you said I think the face to face match has happened.
The Twins have no one to blame but themselves for being in this spot though, if they would have taken care of business w/ KC they could have won the division already

Yeah, same can be said for the White Sox

Rain Delay.

No word on when the game will start.

of course

Why would this season end smoothly???

by guinness junky on Sep 29, 2008 2:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Pure Hypothetical

If MLB could cancel this game and give it to the Sox with the agreement that the playoff would be played in the dome, would you take it.

by guinness junky on Sep 29, 2008 2:14 PM EDT reply actions

Well,

Since the Sox are most likely going to win today anyway, with Detroit not at full strength and having a joke on the mound, that’s a big yes.

Baseball should bring back the scheduled double headers

would be fun

but if both teams are there why not let the Tigers and Twins combine their teams for the best lineup and bullpen vs Chicago? Let our powers combine!

Since we have a White Sux fan here offering his own ideas, I thought I’d share one for him/her

by caluofmn on Sep 29, 2008 2:39 PM EDT up reply actions

How's Detroit's bullpen looking this year? ;)

I’d certainly have let the Twins take Todd Jones before he retired.

Man, that would be a hell of a day, a tigers / twins potential double header. Can’t say I’d want that one.

I wonder if MLB would allow that?

but if today’s game is rained out, I don’t see how they don’t allow it.

Maybe MLB will contact the Tigers and Sox to hop on a bus and play in Milwaukee tonight?

I was wondering today – if there is a 1-game playoff, how do they handle champagne arrangements? Do both teams go halvesies on one playoff-champagne spread, or does each team get one, with the losers donating theirs to the homeless, or what?

2-1 Tigers

Slow start for Tigers and Garcia, but he was great until getting injured a minute ago and the Tigers managed 1 run in each of the last 2 innings. Galaragga is now pitching for the Tigers, with Dye up and Wise on 2nd.

Freddy Garcia pitched well after the first inning,

Anyone else remember before the season started,

and how ESPN was falling all over itself with predictions of a 1000-run Tigers offense?

Yeah, me neither.

9 outs to get (at least) 4 runs! It’s possible, right?

In my hometown (Williston ND) there’s a bar called the KK Korner. Right across the street from Kathy’s Klip and Kuts. I should have my bro take some pictures of them.

hey Jesse

ideas on possible Twins lineup tomorrow?

by caluofmn on Sep 29, 2008 8:02 PM EDT up reply actions

If it's Danks, it should be interesting vs LHP...

Span (RF), Casilla (2B), Mauer ©, Morneau (1B), Kubel (DH), Young (LF), Harris (3B), Punto (SS), Gomez (CF)

Personally I might shift Span to center, move Kubel into right and DH Cuddyer, but I think Gardy will go with a pretty standard lineup.

by Jesse on Sep 29, 2008 8:06 PM EDT up reply actions

Danks is pitching right?

Span RF
Casilla 2B
Mauer C
Morneau 1B
Cuddyer DH
Young LF
Harris 3B
Punto SS
Gomez CF

Gardenhire's major league career: Banjo hitting, futility infielder who couldn't lick it.
Rick Anderson's major league career: Strikethrower who never made it happen with his sub 90's fastball.
Really gives a new definition to living vicariously through other people, don't it?

by caseintheface on Sep 29, 2008 8:04 PM EDT up reply actions

Course you could go with the kitchen sink approach...

To hell with defense put it in the hands of the offense… lol.

Span CF
Casilla 2B
Mauer C
Morneau 1B
Cuddyer DH
Kubel RF
Young LF
Buscher 3B
Harris SS

Gardenhire's major league career: Banjo hitting, futility infielder who couldn't lick it.
Rick Anderson's major league career: Strikethrower who never made it happen with his sub 90's fastball.
