Mijares escapes by the skin of his teeth.
Tigers have had a lot of base runners today. Twins are doing them all sorts of favors, too.
for one inning?
let’s hope it goes quickly.

But it's a big inning.
Lots of posts!

This game is not inspiring confidence for the weekend
Maybe the Twins are just booting balls so the guys in the dugout can be prepared for watching the Royals’ defense.

YOU SON OF A BITCH, BONDERMAN!
"There are only two things that are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." - Albert Einstein
ohhhh Bonderman hits Delmon
EJECTED! And Laird…nice.

Benches clear.
I knew it! Damn, only one inning off!

Was it the 8th inning! I called the 8th, what do I win?

Yes
As I wrote, you win the prize!

Good observation by Gladden
Delmon is actually pissed at Mijares, because Mijares started this whole debacle.
"There are only two things that are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." - Albert Einstein
... and Jack Morris is defending Bonderman
Also, I thought I heard them mention that Laird got tossed, too.
"There are only two things that are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." - Albert Einstein
he did.
and defending Bonderman?!
"Baseball doesn't owe me a thing. I owe my whole life to baseball." -Kirby Puckett
Yes
The exchange as I remember it:
Gladden: Yep, Bonderman just hit him.
Morris: And why wouldn’t you? The game’s out of hand, and you need to protect your teammates.
"There are only two things that are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." - Albert Einstein
If nothing else
this game has provided some excitement.
"Baseball doesn't owe me a thing. I owe my whole life to baseball." -Kirby Puckett
Nice trhow, Bonderman.
You know what? I don’t blame Bonderman for the action he took. I take issue with his throwing at Young’s knees. That’s bullshit. You want to defend your players after both teams have been warned? Fine. Getting hit is a part of the game, and it’s not like the Tigers are going to come back and win this. But you throw at somebody’s knees you’re messing with serious shit. Fuck you, Bonderman.
I also blame Mijares.
If you’re going to hit a guy, just HIT him. If you have to try it three or four times, what does anyone expect but a warning to both sides? Mijares really didn’t give the umpire a choice. If you don’t hit a guy by the second try, it’s time to give up.
And why the hell was he throwing at him in the first place?
Really, it’s worth getting your guys endangered to hit Adam Freaking Everett?
"There are only two things that are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." - Albert Einstein
I always expected AJ to stand up and take a swing at an umpire at some point.
He never did, but he just seemed the type.
he's not done playing yet.
"Baseball doesn't owe me a thing. I owe my whole life to baseball." -Kirby Puckett
Speaking of which...
I had a meeting and missed a bunch of the middle of the game. What was the earlier call that they said had Leyland already pissed at the umps? Something about Span, maybe?
"There are only two things that are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." - Albert Einstein
Span caught a foul ball and the umps said Santiago left first early and called him out.
Replays showed he didn’t leave early. The Thames slide probably also should have been called, and the strike zone has been inconsistent at best today.
Shit
All I have is the radio feed, and Gladden is just blathering. I was away from my desk for 15 minutes…
Could anyone fill me in as to what happened?
Bonderman hit Young, 1st pitch of the inning.
Benches, bullpens clear. Lots of Tigers ejected. People angry.
Fans getting ready to rush the field.
"Baseball doesn't owe me a thing. I owe my whole life to baseball." -Kirby Puckett
they're thinking as payback for Mijares
ATTEMPTING to hit Everett. Which he failed at. Twice. Or maybe three times.
"Baseball doesn't owe me a thing. I owe my whole life to baseball." -Kirby Puckett
Wow.
Well, since Delmon was mad at Mijares, sounds like it was Mijares’ stupid idea. Why on earth? In this game?
Stupid Mijares.
It was stupid
as was the retaliation.
"Baseball doesn't owe me a thing. I owe my whole life to baseball." -Kirby Puckett
Beanball war
Mijares threw a couple balls by Everett last inning, getting the benches warned, and then Bonderman plunked Delmon with the first pitch to start off this inning, getting both himself and his catcher ejected. Delmon dropped after getting hit in the leg, but he also had the awareness to, rather than go after Bonderman, point at Mijares to say “This is your fault.”

there seemed to be a lot more words starting with "F"
in there too.

no, coming from Delmon

This has been an ugly, ugly game.
No one really wins here.
Except the Twins. We win.

Well done

Wait, Joe?
in a non-save? No more stress! This game has been weird enough!

Why is Nathan pitching here?
Don’t you want to keep him available for all three games this weekend, if necessary? Why jeopardize that in a five-run game?

Addendum
ESPECIALLY WHEN NATHAN HAS SUCKED FOR A MONTH

Well, Montana wins the brawl over/under award
Not that it was a brawl. But it was as close as it gets

yeah, that's a shame.
one inning and i could have won. :(

hey Joe
you know if you load the bases and give up a couple runs, it doesn’t get you into a save situation.

So who relieves Nathan?

Keppel should have started this inning, if they were taking out Mijares anyway

I don't know about winning...
but it wasn’t that long ago that Harris had, by himself, a 4 error game.

I am Nathan bipolar right now
On one hand, I think it’s dumb that they wasted their closer in a semi-blowout with three must-win games coming up.
On the other hand, I trust Nathan right now about as far as I can throw Mijares.

that ain’t far.

Now he's just saying "here it is, hit it"
With a five run lead, that’s what he should have been doing since the first pitch.

this guy qas supposed to be the middle-of-the-order hitter for the Rays for years to come. Remember that?
at least
we may be able to delay their celebration until saturday or sunday.

never been there before, never going back.
Unimpressed with someone who names their blog after themselves. And he looks like this?
and posts his own picture? I suspect he has Souhan beat out for douche of the year.

I suspect he has Souhan beat out for douche of the year.
That’s a tall order. Gleeman might be a douche, but at least he doesn’t root for the Twins to fail like Souhan did.

Interesting...
Orlando Cabrera just referred to a “selfish act by Mijares” in the postgame interview when asked about the dugouts emptying.
