Tigers have had a lot of base runners today. Twins are doing them all sorts of favors, too.

This game is not inspiring confidence for the weekend

Maybe the Twins are just booting balls so the guys in the dugout can be prepared for watching the Royals’ defense.

Good observation by Gladden

Delmon is actually pissed at Mijares, because Mijares started this whole debacle.

The exchange as I remember it:

Gladden: Yep, Bonderman just hit him.
Morris: And why wouldn’t you? The game’s out of hand, and you need to protect your teammates.

Nice trhow, Bonderman.

You know what? I don’t blame Bonderman for the action he took. I take issue with his throwing at Young’s knees. That’s bullshit. You want to defend your players after both teams have been warned? Fine. Getting hit is a part of the game, and it’s not like the Tigers are going to come back and win this. But you throw at somebody’s knees you’re messing with serious shit. Fuck you, Bonderman.

Yow!

Jesse’s incensed!

by Neil on Oct 1, 2009 4:16 PM EDT up reply actions

I also blame Mijares.

If you’re going to hit a guy, just HIT him. If you have to try it three or four times, what does anyone expect but a warning to both sides? Mijares really didn’t give the umpire a choice. If you don’t hit a guy by the second try, it’s time to give up.

by Jesse on Oct 1, 2009 4:18 PM EDT up reply actions

And why the hell was he throwing at him in the first place?

Really, it’s worth getting your guys endangered to hit Adam Freaking Everett?

Speaking of which...

I had a meeting and missed a bunch of the middle of the game. What was the earlier call that they said had Leyland already pissed at the umps? Something about Span, maybe?

Span caught a foul ball and the umps said Santiago left first early and called him out.

Replays showed he didn’t leave early. The Thames slide probably also should have been called, and the strike zone has been inconsistent at best today.

Beanball war

Mijares threw a couple balls by Everett last inning, getting the benches warned, and then Bonderman plunked Delmon with the first pitch to start off this inning, getting both himself and his catcher ejected. Delmon dropped after getting hit in the leg, but he also had the awareness to, rather than go after Bonderman, point at Mijares to say “This is your fault.”
