Another point of View....
First off....bad call. I don't think 17 LOB, bases load no outs = no runs, or the Nathan explosion could have been helped by technology. Yeah it sucks that Mauer didn't get a double but he should have been doing an interview from the locker room anyway. It's too bad that the blown call will be the excuse for the Twins losing this game. Players and coaches alike will argue that the next AB would have been pitched differently based with a runner was on second rather than first. The infield would have been in different positions, the batter would have had a different mind set, maybe the Twins bunt, etc...
I'll speak for Yankee Universe when I say that we don't hate the Twins. We'd be pulling for you if we weren't there. You have arguably the best coach in baseball, the best hitting catcher in the game, great fan base and we all loved #34.

You're right, of course.
Especially now, the next day when we’ve all had time to breathe. Blown calls or not, the Twins still had to go out and win the game, they had plenty of opportunities early and late, and they couldn’t convert.
I agree
Especially true that the assumption that Kubel would automatically single to right with Mauer on second and none out is faulty.

Not the point
Cuzzi blew a call a professional ump should NEVER miss. It doesn’t help that he is from Jersey and the call helped the Yankees
Matt Cain's right hand beats a Royal Flush.
I agree also.
Plus, we have gotten some positive calls from officials on our nice big run to the Central Champ. so I am not going to say that this was why we lost.
I always loved that one.
A yanqui fanpost on TT?
Well, one of the politest trolls I’ve seen anyway.
Without all the runners stranded, GoGo’s baserunning and Nathan’s meatballs, the score should’ve been like 10-2 MN, but that call against Mauer still hurt us.
Nothing to do but brush it off and get them tomorrow!

If Mauer's double is ruled as such
Baseball Managing 101 says you IBB the next guy(especially if he’s the cleanup hitter) to set up the double play. It still would have been men on 1st and 2nd no out. I know that’s really no consolation because you guys are pretty pissed off and bummed but it’s the truth.
Had there been men on base that would have scored that is a completely different story, but as it played out the situation would have been the same.
Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.
true
Most likely no damage because a double would lead to an IBB. Still frustrating regardless, because you can’t be absolutely sure how it would have played out.

I agree
We will never know what the result would have been had Mauer’s double actually been ruled a double. But there were so many other mistakes that the Twins made that we can’t blame our loss on the bad call alone.

not on the bad call alone, no.
but to think that that missed call didn’t have a huge impact on the game is not right, either. Could we have won had that been called correctly? Maybe, who knows. But the fact that it was the ump’s one job to make that call, and he missed so blatantly, is the real concern.

I'm not saying the bad call didn't have an impact on the game
like you said, we don’t know what happens after if it was correctly called. It’s possible we get the same result, it’s possible we don’t.
All I’m trying to say is that there are other reasons we lost too. Losing because of leaving 17 on base, or because of Nathan or Mijares, are things that the Twins can recognize and try to correct. Bad calls are something that we can’t do anything about, as aggravating as they may be.

fair enough.
I will fully admit that the leaving 17 guys on base is a bigger issue than the blown call (today, I’ll admit that at least. Last night, absolutely not). That’s just not okay when you’re playing against the Yankees. Not okay playing against anyone, really, but especially not the Yankees. They had a chance to win it…several chances, really, and didn’t. Still hurts.

Yeah it still hurts. I think I'd be more upset if I wasn't too exhausted to care too much last night. Really, really long day.
I bet I know what would make you feel better – a Jeter 2,722 hits laser engraved baseball! Google ads does not understand irony.

Ahhh, 'really, really' long days are never good. :(
And I appreciate the offer for a Jeter engraved ball, but you know…I think I might pass on that. :)

Is it just me..
or has Nathan been slipping alot lately? i know he is one of the best but everytime im watching a game he gives up a run or opposing batters get in scoring position alot.
not just you, he has been slipping a lot lately
He’s still been great overall for the season, but it’s piss poor timing for him to decline…

Bad calls happen
Listen, bad calls happen in every game everyday! I don’t see Nathan crying about the Twins getting to the playoffs on the bad call the umps made. Inge was HBP but the ump said nope. That would have sent home the tying run and who knows what would happen next… but the Twins only want to cry about bad calls that are against them.
Ok, last time I'm going over this.
Inge was NOT HBP. If he had had his jersey properly tucked so the ump could have made a clear call, that would have been a different story. He didn’t, so no dice. Too bad.
And comparing Mauer’s VERY CLEARLY fair ball to a sketchy HBP call is…not right. Totally and completely different.
"Baseball doesn't owe me a thing. I owe my whole life to baseball." -Kirby Puckett
Can we just go one day here without the Inge HBP being brought up
That certainly wasn’t the only bad call that day.
And also:
but the Twins only want to cry about bad calls that are against them
Every team’s fans are going to do this. And I find that statement wonderfully ironic (presuming you’re a Tigers fan).
I would just like to point out
that the Inge “HPB”<Mauer’s blown call.
That is all. :)

in the end they go down the same.
both teams lose when they fail to score with the bases loaded with less than two outs. No excuses for that in either situation.
