Overflow Thread 2: Yanks @ Twins

Twins 1, Yankees 2, heading to the bottom of the 7th.

A-Rod and Posada blast solo shots off of a very on-his-game Pavano, who deserves more than he's had returned from his offense.

Due Up:  Kubel, Young, Harris

"Baseball doesn't owe me a thing. I owe my whole life to baseball." -Kirby Puckett

by fischean on Oct 11, 2009 9:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Let me put it another way:

Hypothetical:

The Twins beat the Yankees and go to the ALCS against the Angels.

The Dodgers win the NLCS and you see a bunch of Dodgers fans openly rooting for the Twins to beat the Angels.

Question:

Is that a sign that Dodger fans think the Twins are a weaker team than the Angels?

by Terrekain on Oct 11, 2009 9:36 PM EDT up reply actions

Answer:

It doesn’t really matter. It’s all semantics, and it’s the way sports work.

by Jesse on Oct 11, 2009 9:37 PM EDT up reply actions

I guess I can leave it at that.

Good game at any rate.

And if the Twins do pull it out, you’ll have a lot of legitimate Red Sox fans on your side – both for going up against the Angels and beating the Yankees.

But Angels fans are a different matter entirely at this point.

Just saying….

by Terrekain on Oct 11, 2009 9:41 PM EDT up reply actions

PS

I’m not trying to insult anybody or the Twins.

But if it were my team, I would not want another team’s fans rooting for my team IF WE WERE PLAYING THAT TEAM THE VERY NEXT ROUND.

No offense to Twins fans or even Angels fans; just the facts.

by Terrekain on Oct 11, 2009 9:38 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah but people are different

I’d rather have two teams I like face off even if it ends up getting my team a tougher opponent

Gardenhire is 6-14 in the playoffs.

That’s .300 baseball, gentlemen.

by Evan in North Dakota on Oct 11, 2009 9:52 PM EDT reply actions

In the playoffs.

Ron Gardenhire has managed to get this team to the playoffs. Five times in eight years. One good post-season runs would change that sample size.

by Jesse on Oct 11, 2009 9:54 PM EDT up reply actions

I can never agree to that.

He had good teams for much of that time, it wasn’t managerial acumen that got them there.

by MNPundit on Oct 11, 2009 9:58 PM EDT up reply actions

I disagree...

that RON GARDENHIRE has been responsible for the team getting to the playoffs.

I disagree that stupid early game sac bunts and terrible line-ups have helped win games.

I disagree that poor bullpen management has helped win games.

I disagree that poor player evalutation and influencing the FO to make stupid roster moves has helped win games.

I think Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau and Joe Nathan and Liriano/Garza/Bartlett ’06 and DSPAN and a buncha luck (see: last year Livan 1st half and BARISP) and Joe Mauer and Joe Mauer and even the Dome have helped win games.

Gardenhire isn’t going anywhere unless he personally wants to hang ’em up.
