the Twins mean a lot to their fans. They don’t have a crazy payroll and can’t buy tons of good players. Our team plays with heart, and where they come from means a lot to them.

Since the '91 World Series, there has been...

1998: Vikings lose NFC championship loss to Falcons
2000: Vikes get crushed 41-0 to Giants in NFC championship
2002: Twins lose ALCS to Angels
2003: Wild loses West Final to Ducks
2003: Yankees lose ALDS to Yankees
2004: T-Wolves lose West Finals to Lakers
2004: Twins lose ALDS to Yankees
2006: T-Wolves lose ALDS to Oakland
2007: KG traded to Boston, Celtics win NBA finals later that year
2008: Wild win Northwest Division, eliminated in 1st round
2009: Twins swept by Yankees in ALDS.
Looks like the Twin Cities’ last hopes for a World Championship are:
A Timberwolf team that won 25 games last year and a Viking team with an aging Brett Favre.

by fischean on Oct 11, 2009 11:10 PM EDT up reply actions

You're so wrong...

We can thank Mr. Pohlad for bending the state over his knee because he didn’t want to shill out a single dime for this new ballpark. We can thank him that even when the legislature voted for funding an outdoor stadium he didn’t have the decency to say “And I’ll put the roof on it.”

This is a man who made his fortune foreclosing on people in the great depression. The only thing I’m thankful for is he’s gone now and we can stop hearing people with short memories talk about how the Twins always manage to get things done on a budget because of their small market limitations. Bullshit. Pohlad squeezed every single cent out of the Twins during the 90’s and threatened to move the team to NC when fans didn’t react well to him clearing out every player who made more than 5.50 an hour (excluding Radke). He basically volunteered us for contraction because he would’ve personally gotten a sweet buyout deal from the other owners.

Mourn the fact that he made us live through the 1990’s and the fact that he probably passed on his same ‘charming’ personality to the next generation of Pohlads, but don’t mourn that man passing, on; it was long overdue.
