ALDS Game 1 Overflow Thread 1
Currently 2-0 Twins going into the bottom of the 3rd inning, on a Cuddyer single and a Posada passed ball. Let's go Twins!
Ron Darling Quotes from the game:
"Fisted out of play by Damon."
"The Twins defense in the outfield is outstanding."
"I don't think anyone had made the transition from third to short better than A-Rod."
"Brian Duensing is 26, only six years older than Rick Porcello!"
"Minnesota scores first, they also score second."

Hi there, I have a question, I am listening on the radio. Is Bob Uecker one of the announcers?
People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. I am just a baseball fan listening to the game at work. Since I usually don’t listen to the Twins games on the radio, I was confused for a second. I think it is John Gordon’s excitability that makes him sound a little more like Uecker. Thanks for straightening me out.

It means that Jeter gets on inside the ball.
Which means he gets on top of the ball.
All his balls are potential base-hits.
The guy has 3 pop-up outs all season – which is crazy.

It's not so much the payroll.
It’s the constant din about everything they do, and the self-fulfilling “mystique” of the team.
When the Angels were in the World Series, not every at bat was talked about with the Ghosts of Anaheim players past and all that B.S.
With the Yankees, everything is measured and told against myth. It’s the worst ever.
And, they buy their teams.
by Evan in North Dakota on Oct 7, 2009 7:32 PM EDT up reply actions
For example:
compare how they’ll talk about Duensing to how they’ll talk about Joba Chamberlain.
by Evan in North Dakota on Oct 7, 2009 7:33 PM EDT up reply actions
To me, the payroll is a big part of it
but bigger still is what it’s indicative of:
the Yankees, from a BASEBALL standpoint, are not a well-run franchise. Any team with competent leadership would NEVER miss the playoffs, and would be hands-down favorites to win every year, with their payroll. They scatter money by throwing it to the wind, and if it happens to work, they’re praised for it. But as far as an ability to foster talent from their own system, or trade effectively, or any of that? They just don’t do it, and they let the money cover up their gross shortcomings. Their best franchise guys are from another generation, and at the end of their careers…Jeter, Posada, Rivera. They don’t have effective baseball leadership at all. I just don’t get how it’s fun to root for a bunch of businessmen to buy other people’s talent, and monopolize a sport with, given the context, fairly mediocre results.
