And...0-2 It Is
I go off on an itsy bitsy rant following our Twins' loss in game two of the ALDS. If I had to highlight anything I'd highlight this:
"Luxury tax? Not good enough. Revenue sharing? Not good enough. Until all teams in Major League Baseball are actually on even ground, you might as well just put teams like the Yankees in a league of their own. Because a video-game lineup of All-Stars for some reason just seems unfair."
Tonight, I am extraordinarily unhappy.

Mad...unhappy...sad.
and wondering if that call actually did cost us the game.

A lot of missed opportunities regardless
Just about the most painful way to lose a game.

Yes, true.
the “leaving the bases loaded in extras” deal definitely did not help out at all. Bases loaded, no outs? AT LEAST one run should score there. Good lord.

a whole lot of fail to spread around, sadly
Umpiring fail, but also trademarked RISP fail, Nathan fail, Mayor McCheese fail, on and on.

Hmmm...
I was too upset to even note that it was a Mayor McCheese fail. Hmph, I feel so cheated now.

you must be really upset to miss a Mayor McCheese fail
although if it was a Billy Butler fail you missed, then I would really be concerned for you

hahaha, you can be very sure I will never miss a Billy Butler fail
I can pass on a couple Mayor McCheese fails since he’s on ‘my’ team and all…
but yes, I was pretty upset. The postgame talk with TT has been very therapeutic, however. Bring on Sunday! :)

Kind of hard to win when you're doing it with one hand tied behind your back by the umps.
In addition to Phil Cuzzi’s call (let’s all memorize that name, shall we?) Blackburn got squeezed to within an inch of his life in the 6th, suddenly not getting calls he was getting the inning before.
I’m not saying we did as much as we should, because we didn’t. But we did enough We did enough to win this game and we weren’t allowed to. I want someone to go through Phil Cuzzi’s financial records, because honestly, I don’t know how the hell that call can be accidentally blown when the ball is five feet fair and he’s only fifteen feet away with a clear view.
Without that call, we go into the bottom of the 11th with at least a one run lead. At the worst, Texiera’s homer ties it up (though the pitching decisions, including who is on the mound, may have been different… who knows?). I honestly thought I’d never see a worse or more damaging call than the Maier “homerun” of 1996, but I was wrong. This is worse. So sayeth the Orioles fan.
And it is ALWAYS the Yankees. Every. Single. Time. It’s the Yankees.
Excuse me, I’m going to go kill some zombies on Playstation and drink heavily.

haha, good recovery plan
And you have to think…we had bases loaded, at least two runs would have possibly scored in that inning. There are a lot of “ifs” involved, but the main point: the Twins got screwed tonight. Just…ugh.

No question.
At least one. It’s almost impossible for it to have been less than one. Beyond that, you get into a whole thing of pitching choices, mental states (how demoralized were the Twins by that call? I sure as hell was), it becomes a mess. But even if everything else remained exactly the same, Texiera’s homer only ties.
I’ll get banned if I say what I want in the language I want.

haha, I'm sure what you're thinking is the same as many, many Twins fans right now.
As for how that probably affected the players…well, I can imagine they were as disheartened as all of us. That’s gotta be rough, especially when it’s the officials that mess up the play.

Seriously, how can you not just feel the game is rigged?
I know we shouldn’t have left so many men on base, but…. come on. (Also, frankly, I maintain that for anyone but the Yankees, our ALDS rival would have been told sorry, Game 1’s going to have to be on Thursday.)
I’d be able to take this more philosophically if it wasn’t Always. The Yankees. Always.

I had to play old school Nintendo
Bad News baseball is a great stress reliever for me. I played five games before I started feeling like I wasn’t going to yell at anything. By the way, the umps in Bad News Baseball are bunnies, and I think that they could have done a better job than the real ones lately.

The Yankees are not that good. They have hitters purchased for thieir ability to hit homeruns.
In the post season clutch hits and a few homeruns make it happen. The Twins had a lot of chances for a clutch hit to win the game but came up just short.

They are not that good?
You mean the team that has the best winning percentage in all of baseball and has beaten the Twins 9 times in a row? So it is just bad luck?

What I would like to see
is a system where teams are able to keep their best players. Some form of revenue sharing where you only get money for helping to re-sign your own players, or a penalty for teams who sign away other teams’ players, or something along those lines.
If your star wants to stay, and you want to keep him, you shouldn’t be forced to lose or trade him because you can’t pay him. Your fans deserve to have him stick around.

I thought you were a Tory
Why else would you live in England?
Good god, that game sucked. It almost makes me want to start following cricket.
What sticks out to me this morning is the bottom of the 9th. The bases-loaded, no out situation obviously stings, but…Young hit the ball hard, that was just bad luck. Gomez can’t really hit, so you get what you get. But your all-star closer with a 2 run lead in the biggest game of the season? Ouch.

I agree
17 men left on, but this one’s on Nathan. How many more years on his contract?
He’s clearly lost confidence in his stuff. Nibble, nibble, nibble, get behind in the count, and then meatball. The plate was 3 feet wide last night and he still couldn’t hit spots.
For all the love that Gomez gets on this board, he does one thing well: runs down fly balls. His arm is erratic, his instincts stink, he can’t steal bases, and his hitting is pathetic.

can't tell if I agree, or not.
Nathan has been shaky at the end of the last several seasons. Even a couple of seasons where he was virtually lights out through the first 80% of the season.
The plate was 3 feet wide last night and he still couldn’t hit spots.
So true. But look back on the last half of the last few seasons and you’ll remember him as doing his best Eddie Guardado impressions.
I think the reality is that the closer position is overrated. And Nathan has been overrated because he is a closer. He’s a very good closer, but that just means he is a very good pitcher, not a superstar.

Well...
The plate was 3 feet wide last night and he still couldn’t hit spots.
…except for Blackburn in the bottom of the 6th.
Cuzzi’s call was obviously the worst, but Blackburn lost four inches on each side of the strikezone without warning. Amazingly, it happened after the Twins took the lead. Funny, that.

Wow
You guys simply got beaten by a better team. Want to cry about revenue sharing whle your team has the richest owner in all of professional sports? New York market area is 19 million people, of course they have a lot of money… AND they reinvest it back into their team. I like the Twins but if you want to cry poverty, you should at least NOT have an owner worth Billions.

Rays fan here who love Twin baseball
Getting screwed by umps against New York and Boston is what I have been witnessed to for 10 years now. It’s not as bad as it once was when we were the ‘lowly Devil Rays’ but it still hurts. They already spend out of this world type money and then they get the “Hometown calls” on top of it.
