SB Nation Awards: 2009 American League Cy Young Award
So far Mike Scioscia has picked up AL Manager of the Year, and Elvis Andrus took home AL Rookie of the Year.
| Rk | Player | Team | 1st | 2nd | 3rd | Pts |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Zack Greinke | Kansas City Royals | 28 | 1 | - | 143 |
| 2 | Felix Hernandez | Seattle Mariners | - | 17 | 6 | 57 |
| 3 | Justin Verlander | Detroit Tigers | - | 8 | 9 | 33 |
| 4 | Roy Halladay | Toronto Blue Jays | 1 | 2 | 11 | 22 |
| 5 | C.C. Sabathia | New York Yankees | - | 1 | 2 | 5 |
| 6 | Jon Lester | Boston Red Sox | - | - | 1 | 1 |
Any surprises here? I know I went Greinke-Hernandez one-two, but I can't recall if I voted Verlander or Halladay for the bronze medal.

I am sad that there are no votes for a certain 20-year-old
Rick Porcello should have won because he is only 20
He could have a great slogan too: Rick Porcello – putting the “young” in the Cy Young award

Yeah...
it seems there are a lot of SBNation bloggers that are unaware of the talent this rookie phenom has. What a shame.
One big surprise
It wasn’t unanimous. Really, Guy Who Voted For Halladay? Really? You’re basing your Cy Young vote entirely on innings pitched and walk rate (basically the only statistical categories in which Halladay was better than Greinke)? I am disappointed that you weren’t doing this in 2005, to give Carlos Silva a Cy Young vote.

Up to 8 votes for F-Her (love that nickname)

I like F-Rod too
For some reason, that one never stuck

1. Greinke, 2. Verlander, 3. Halladay
I wanted to put Felix ahead of Verlander (jerk), but there was a pretty good sized gap…
Greinke’s a no brainer. Perhaps the only more cut and dry choice is AL MVP…
