Sunday Morning Breakfast & Baseball: Mauer, Hardy, Uniforms, Vikings
Top o' the mornin' to ya...
- Here's a Q&A with Joe Mauer over at the Strib online. There are some good quotes, all about his game and his rewards and no contract talk, but if you've read the Twins coverage at the Star Tribune at all this week then you've probably already seen most of this.
- The boys over at FOX Sports say that the Brewers only went with the Twins after the Pirates tried to pull in J.J. Hardy with Matt Capps or Ryan Doumit. Apparently Milwaukee was looking for either Paul Maholm or Zack Duke.
- This has already been talked about here, and there's been a lot of good discussion--the Twins will unveil new-look road uni's (along with "subtle" changes to the home threads) on Monday afternoon.
- Be sure to check out Han Joelo's gem.
- After a week to get healthy the Vikings are back in action this afternoon. It looks like Antoine Winfield will take another week, but hopefully the Lions won't give the Vikings too much trouble and they won't miss him for one more game. Be sure to head over to Daily Norseman for all your Vikings needs.

Orlando Cabrera
According to Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune the Twins are talking to Orlando Cabrera about coming back to play 2B. I’m not sure what to think of this, I guess it’ better than having Tolbert starting and I would hope Cabrera’s D improves at 2B. This would be our lineup I suppose
Span
Cabrera
Mauer
Morneau
Cuddyer
Kubel
Hardy
Young
Punto
It’s not awful but I’d sure like a 2 hitter with a higher OBP.
Peyton's good but have you ever heard of Jeff George?

i hate it
simply because it means putting Punto at 3B.
Hopefully Smith is doing this to put pressure on Crede…

very true
That’s the tough part is that it’s almost a sure thing that the Twins start Punto somewhere, especially since he ended the season well.
If the Twins were willing to sign Cabrera and Crede, then I might be more ok with it. I just think for the money it would cost to sign Cabrera they could do better and younger like Felipe Lopez or just better with Polanco.

Hate it
1. Cabrera’s low OBP in front of Mauer makes no sense.
2. Cabrera’s biggest problem defensively last year was range and errors. Decreasing range will hurt him at 2B as well.
3. Punto would play 3B, meaning Morneau would have to wear catcher’s gear at 1B.
I would only consider Cabrera if we signed a solid top of the order guy like Figgins at 3B. Heck, even Melvin Mora has been a good OBP guy who could hit in the #2 hole. Then we could sign Cabrera, hit him near the bottom of the order, and Punto becomes the super sub (his best role, IMO). Harris and Casilla…expendable in this scenario.

speed
is anyone concerned that we have 2 players that can steal a base??? everyone except punto and span is below average speed and if we sign crede were even slower…twins have always been based on speed…sure mauer and cuddy can pick there spots to steal bases but were becomin a station to station team and im not sure its best for us what does everyone else think?

They should hit five consecutive home runs!

New Twins commercial is out!
Twins-portation. I won’t spoil the ending, but it’s as good as TK’s “That’s a shame.” with the Braves fan.
