Congrats to Scioscia and Tracy
Always a bridesmaid, Gardy! Although I think I would have voted Scioscia for this one too.
Also, Washburn? Blech… if we sign a free agent SP, he should at least be an improvement! Last year, Washburn had a 4.58 FIP, only slightly better than Perkins (4.66), and not a whole lot better than Liriano (4.87). Sure, his ERA was a lot better than Perkins (5.89) or Liriano (5.80), but we can’t expect Washburn to repeat that production. His ERA for the past three seasons has been 4.69, 4.32, and 4.67 – not awful, but not worth spending a lot of money at the cost of upgrading other positions (or shooting for a better SP).
Regarding Liriano – Bill James is projecting both a 3.67 FIP and 3.67 ERA for Liriano next year. Something must suggest a comeback for Liriano for James to project those numbers, but I don’t know what. I certainly don’t expect Liriano to meet those numbers, though I would be overjoyed if he did.

I can see why Scioscia got it
But I give Gardy his due, our September run to take the division from the Tigers was amazing. Seven and a half games back and in third place to AL Central Division champs!
