Selig Talks Playoffs 2010, Draft Picks
Bud Selig is attempting to tighten up the 2010 playoff schedule so there aren't as many off days. He also discusses free agency and more equality in draft picks, while talking very briefly about instant replay (still not in favor).

Alright, I'll start things off
I think the World Series winner not getting a top draft pick is an interesting idea. It gives the other teams a chance to build up and have a stronger team. A little equality. The instant replay idea has been talked to death, but I still can’t say I’m 100% in favor of it. The human element is part of the game…sometimes the calls go your way, sometimes they don’t. :\
And the playoff schedule being shorter wouldn’t be a terrible thing, though I enjoy baseball as long as it lasts (even if it is the Yankees and Phillies…I just pretend I’m watching Mauer, Blackie, et al instead of the Evil Empire. Dreamworld is nice, you’re all welcome to visit sometime).

Ah...yeah, ok.
Sometimes the calls are terrible, but they do go both ways.
Unless you’re the Yankees…then they always go your way. :)

I don't mind using just regular-season performance for the draft
The regular season is a better reflection of a team’s overall quality than the postseason, so I think it makes sense to still use that for draft position.
The thing I found interesting from a draft perspective was the idea of adding foreign players to the draft. It still seems crazy to me that signing foreign players is basically still a free-for-all, and I think it would make some sense to add them to the draft framework somehow.

That's no moon!

RE: your dreamworld: The Twins are not the evil empire. I can’t pretend that much. Baseball died for me after the Angels got eliminated, then it was just two evils playing one another. No one left to root for. Although oddly enough, I did watch parts of the WS games now and then.

Haha, I love the picture.
Well, I didn’t want either team to win, honestly, but in the end, I wanted to see the Yankees lose more than the Phillies win. And I like Chase Utley, so…yeah. I watched a few of the games, but it definitely wasn’t a whole lot of fun.

TV rules
As I posted in a recent diary, this is ridiculous:
Starting in 2007, baseball added four extra days off during the postseason at the request of its television partners, shifting the World Series opener to Wednesday from Saturday, usually the lowest-rated night of the week.
Yet the Twins had to fly to NY at 3 in the morning to start the playoffs the next day after winning the Division Championship.
That’s ridiculous on its face. It’s bad enough that the Yanks can outspend other teams by more than a 100 million dollars, but to have them sitting in New York waiting to drub a team arriving at 3:00 a.m. because FOX needs the revenue is utter horseshit.
Do what’s right for the game and all will be fine.
Do what’s right for FOX and what we get will be crap—which is what that station really is.

Worse
The yanquis got to pick the starting day too. They chose the earlier one, knowing a Game 163 was possible and whomever they played would do so on no rest. You and Mike Scoscia are right, the too long playoff system is “Ridiculous.”
Hopefully we won’t have a Mr. November in 2010.

I was disappointed to read this
The economic disparity between payrolls for some of the large-market teams — such as the New York Yankees — and smaller ones will always be an issue, Selig said
So the evil empire can try to buy a pennant year after year, that’s just the way it is.

Yeah, that was a little disheartening to read
Not surprising, but unfortunate.
