Changes to Twinkie Town

What?  More changes?

Well, sort of.  Our SB Nation crack squad of technoguysandgirls are on a never-ending quest to perfect not just the interface of Twinkie Town, but also how the site looks.  Today there isn't a focus on the former, as much as it's about the latter.

That's pretty much it.  The changes you see today are visual, made in an effort to make the content number one visually.  By the end of the day these alterations should be completed network-wide.

If you encounter any problems, please feel free to email me or leave them in the contents section.

May have to be thumbnailed down when clicking on actual posts. It currently overlaps part of the title.

Just in Firefox I guess.

something wrong with the float on the graphic??

Yup.

I don’t see a float attribute in the CSS. Easy fix.

I fear change.

But I can’t fault the SBN guys for their changes. (Think how much better the site looks, compared to about two years ago. Night and day.)

Totally.

And is it a midwestern thing to fear change? A deep question, perchance.

Not sure I'm a fan of the changes

but then again, I’ll need to take a look when I’m not enjoying a few beers on Coronado Island waiting for my red eye back to the east coast. First glance? Meh.

Totally agree that the site is much better off stylistically since a couple years ago.

Question that's sort of (not really) related...

Will the logo for Twinkie Town change when the Twins head into Target Field? Or will we bask in the glory that was the Dome still? :)

Great question!

It will change. I talked to our other front page folk and approached SB Nation about it back in July. I’m not sure when the logo will change, but it will.

It’s been nearly four years with that logo…I’ll miss it!

Why the Red Stars?

Looks like Trotsky Town

SBNation logo, comrade.

Observation

The header is now really ugly. I think the idea is that the bottom matches up with the TwinkieTown logo on the article pages, since there’s no left-hand sidebar on those, but the big blue empty area with a tiny bit of white text is rather unsightly. Maybe a background image or something would be good there instead of the plain blue.

Otherwise, I like the new typeface and larger headline text, and while DJL’s comment is funny, I don’t mind the red stars too much; I was never all that fond of the yelling backward-cap guy.

Additional notes

I checked Royals Review and Bless You Boys, and they both have the same big ugly monochrome header, so it is likely something in the SB Nation template set up that way. Also, I inadvertently discovered that the link to Bless You Boys is broken – there’s some extraneous stuff tacked onto the end of the URL; should be an easy fix.

Firefox & AdBlock Plus disagree. :)

That may change how it looks, though. I didn’t notice until he pointed it out, but sans banner ad, it does look kinda weird.

That's odd...I have Firefox.

But not the AdBlock Plus.

In that case, yes, a background image or an imprint might work. We’ll see.

Oops

I may have adblocked it, then. I usually don’t use AdBlock on sites that don’t carry annoying Flash ads, as I don’t intend to be a complete freeloader. You are free to disregard my complaint, which was pretty frivolous anyway.
