White Sox Trade for Mark Teahen
In return, the Royals are getting second baseman Chris Getz and third base/first base power hitter Josh Fields. Getz played quite a bit for the White Sox in '09, while Fields couldn't lock into one position and struggled to find playing time behind Gordon Beckham.

I think
the Royals got the better of this trade. I just wonder if they will move Alberto Callaspo to SS now.
I also wonder who will play 2B for the ChiSox now…unless they plan on going out and signing yet another big name, big contract player.

I think they’re done with big contracts for a while. They seem to have a lot of infielders who could or maybe should play here or there. Beckham to SS or 2nd? Alexei back to 2nd or out to CF? Nix at 2nd?
I can see
them going for Beltre or Figgins. Otherwise their team is set (if the reports of Teahen manning RF are true).
Just odd
A below avgerage hitter and fielder for $4-5M. Seems like the White Sox could have kept Getz and Fields and signed someone as good as a free agent.
Their middle infield will likely be Alexi Ramirez and Gordon Beckham in some combination. They may slide Teahen to 3B if they find a RF.
aside from defense
-2.0 UZR/150 for Teahan compared to Dye’s -17.5

I can see that Dye is much older
But Teahan as an outfielder is not much better than replacement level. I mean, a halfway decent farm system should have corner OF-ers just as good in AAA. Teahan has some value as an infield bat, but I thought the Sox had Beckham there?
Anyhow, googling around most of the news stories actually include question marks in the headline. I agree this is a confusing move.
Not much better than replacement level
That’s always been my impression. Corner outfielders with his numbers ought to be available for next to nothing. Garret Jones, for example. To give up a decent middle infielder and your former top prospect for him seems ridiculous to me.

Teahen, AJ and Ozzie
All on the same team for you. Convenience!

Hmmm, replace Billy Butler with Ozzie and you have the trifecta of irrationally hated players.
Though I guess AJ isn’t all that irrational…
Maybe you are psychic?
You knew about the trade before it happened, so your Teahen hate wasn’t irrational after all

One replacement level player for two replacement level players
since the two are cost controlled, the Royals win. But it’s nothing to get excited about.
Exactly
At least the Royals are trading expensive bad players for cheap bad players instead of the the opposite like last season.
Kotsay to the White Sox
For 1 year $1.5M. I love that the Whiteys have $6M tied up in replacement level corner players before the offseason even starts.
Did anyone else yawn when they heard this news?
I dont see this trade having a big impact on either team.
