Philip Humber a Royal
One of the key players in the Minnesota Twins trade of Johan Santana has signed a minor league contract with the Kansas City Royals.
Humber had multiple shots with the Twins the past two seasons, ending up with a combined 6.10 ERA in 20.2 innings, walking nearly as many (14) as he struck out (15) do go with 28 hits allowed.
He will get an invite to spring training. A combined 17-17 in two seasons with the Rochester Red Wings, mainly as a starter, Humber joins fellow pitcher Kevin Mulvey and outfielder Carlos Gomez as the third now former Twinsr of the 4-players received in this trade from two-seasons ago.
Happily, the Twins may have J.J. Hardy and Jon Rauch producing better for the club in the next season and giving the Twins back some worth!

Questioned...
Humber went thru waivers twice last season and I would’ve thought that he would’ve been the perfect target for a etam like the Royals (or Pirates, or even Nationals) to grab and give a tryout as the season wound down.

Adios, Humber the Lumber Humbler. Good luck in KC.

Good luck Humber
Knowing the Royals, they will somehow overpay him.

no
you must be thinking of the White Sox. Knowing the Royals they will give him the Opening Day Start with Greinke following.

A few recent free agent signings by the Royals
Jason Kendall – 2 yrs / $6 MM
Jose Guillen – 3 yrs / $36 MM
Kyle Farnsworth – 2 yrs / $9.25 MM
All awful contracts. I’ll give Dayton Moore credit for extending Greinke, great move, but many of his other moves have been to pay too much money for players that aren’t very good (possible exception of Guillen, had a few great years before becoming a Royal, but still a high contract).

Ah, Farnsworth.
Hahahaha, awesome contract move.

Not to mention acquiring Betancourt
He is the worst regular shortstop in the league, at least since Punto moved to second.

he's all around worse than Punto
Punto at least adds something to defense, Betancourt can’t field and hits even worse

You're probably right
I just couldn’t resist taking a gratuitous shot at Punto.

gratuitous shots at LNP are good for any occasion

Why don't the Twins trade with the Royals?
Is it just because the Royals never have anything valuable to trade?
Tough to trade within the division
Stakes are higher

Humber
This guy is not even worth talking about, the Mets pulled the wool over the Twins eyes with this guy and Gomez. I have said this since we traded Santana, if we would have kept him for the last year of his deal we would have won the divison that year. There would have been no playoff game in Chicago and we would have gone to the playoffs.
Sure, we keep Santana in 2008, we probably make the playoffs
but what happens then? I know the playoffs can be a crapshoot, but do you think that team, even with Santana, was going to win the World Series? I doubt it, given the way Morneau had gone in the tank and Mauer was wearing down. Although I would like to have seen it. And who’s to know? Santana clearly did not want to stay in Minnesota. Would he have been a disruptive force here in 2008?
Then in 2009, Santana would have been gone and we’d have two draft picks. Instead, we now have Rauch, Hardy and Guerra. Not the biggest haul for Santana, but not bad.
