Twinkie Town 2010 Top 50...Voting for Prospect Number 14!
In the runoff for Prospect Number 12, Anthony Slama held a lead throughout the voting with 51 votes (58%). Max Kepler-Rozycki picked up 36 (41%) of the 87 votes cast. Congratulations to Anthony and Max!
We now move on to the fourteenth round. All of the other six players in the twelfth round had over 5% of the vote and will be included in this round. A few names have been mentioned frequently in the last several rounds, including Tyler Robertson and hard throwing short reliever Billy Bullock. A few of you also mentioned that the last round was nearly all pitchers. If I add the two mentioned above, this round would include seven pitchers. Therefore, we will be adding Billy Bullock and a catcher who has been mentioned several times recently, Danny Rams.
Three players that I would like to hear some feedback on for future rounds are all thought of highly by the Twins as they are on their 40-man roster. Do many of you think it is time to take another look at Trevor Plouffe or Estarlin De Los Santos? Steven Tolleson is also on the 40-man roster and hasn't been included in any round as of yet. Your thoughts on adding Tolleson please? Please comment on these three as well as others you believe should be soon added.
The Top thirteen prospects in Twinkie Town voting are: 1) Miguel Jean; 2) Aaron Hicks; 3) Wilson Ramos; 4) Kyle Gibson; 5) Ben Revere; 6) Danny Valencia; 7) Angel Morales; 8) David Bromberg; 9) Rene Tosoni; 10) Deolis Guerra; 11) Chris Parmelee; 12) Anthony Slama; and 13) Max Kepler-Rozycki.

Can some one truly
tell me that they have seen Gutierrez pitch. I’d love to see another top pitcher, but so far I’ve only been told he’s good. The numbers just don’t show it yet. If he was 18 I could overlook this but he came from U of Miami he’s faced competition before. Can someone assure me he that good???

Joe Mauer liked him
Said he had one of the heaviest sinkers he’s caught
Those two
and Salcedo are my top three. I went with Salcedo.

More pitchers
Currently 4/13 prospects are pitchers. 1/2 of the prospects should be pitchers (since they get half the roster spots) or we have a really weak system for pitching.
I like Benson, Manship and Salcedo about equally. I’ll switch to Salcedo for this round.
as far as additions go....
I say either Mattew Bashore or Tyler Robertson….
Rene Tosoni is good.

I voted for Alex Burnett, because this past year he put up some solid numbers and has basically improved every year in the minors, which is a good sign since he is 21 in high A ball.
I’m just not on the Guiterrez bandwagon right now. Having a 6.19 ERA in AA is nothing to be excited about. He may have a great sinker, but that doesn’t mean anything if the opposing team is scoring runs on you. Hermsen, Salcedo, and Bullock all look good so far, but I still need to see more from them.
Some truth there
He has a plus pitch but inconsistent results with it. Not sure if it is command of the pitch, control of location or poor secondary pitches that is the problem
Been voting Salcedo for some time

Let's keep running that play...
until we get it right!

Benson
Listened to Kevin Goldstein on Seth’s podcast and he lists Benson’s tools as 70 speed, 60 power, 60 defense in CF, 60 arm. His tools are better than anyone’s in the system except maybe Hicks. He really should be in the top 10, maybe top 5.
Tools aren't everything
Everyone knew he was an athlete, he only really started applying those tools this year. I think most prospect guys are going to flip the positions of Benson and Parmelee on our lists.
+1
There’s one essential skill that can make or break a player: Being able to squarely hit a round ball with a round bat. You can have all the tools in the world, but if you can’t do this consistently, you’re a pitching prospect. Prior to 2009, he had shown no consistent contact skills. 2009 was encouraging, and, if he follows that up with another step forward at the plate, he’ll be a top 5 prospect in my book.

And I'm much higher on Benson than Parmelee
I rank Benson in the teens, Parmelee in the 20s.

I agree CMath...
…Parmelee appears to have two good points to his game, he may hit home runs (a lot of them) and appears to get a lot of walks…which may be related to the home runs.
Benson has the physical ability to be special. It is always hard to judge how long it should take a young man to develop his skills when he was very raw when drafted (ie, hadn’t played a lot of baseball). I often hear the comparisons between Torii Hunter and that Benson could become another Hunter. Hunter also didn’t set the world on fire his first few years in the organization. It remains to be seen if Benson will continue to develop into a Torii Hunter type player. If he does, what we thought was an overloaded outfield last year will be nothing compared to the nice problem the team will face 3-4 years in the future.
Been voting Burnett for a bit
And it looks like that’ll continue for a bit, too.
yep
Let the runoff begin!

One of the reasons I’m so high on Slacedo is he’ll be 19 in April, likely pitching for Beloit.
