Twinkie Town 2010 Top 50...Runoff voting for Prospect Number 14!
With 123 votes cast, Carlos Gutierrez led Adrian Salcedo 34-31. With only a three vote difference, we will have another run off with the winner designated as our 14th Top Prospect and the loser Number 15.
The two players added to this round, Danny Rams and Billy Bullock had only three votes total. I am tentatively planning on replacing them in the next round with Tyler Robertson and Steven Tolleson. Robertson had been a very high prospect two years ago before an arm injury cost him the end of his 2008 season. He returned with a solid performance last season. Tolleson has been one of the organization's better middle infield prospects and was added to the 40-man roster a year ago.
We will need four new prospects in the next round. Please let me know if a lot of you disagree with Robertson and Tolleson. Also, who is someone else that you passionately want added in the next or future rounds.

Salcedo
In 08he had 8 BB and 50 K’s in the DSL. In 09 he had 3 BB’s and 58 K’s in the GCL. That’s 11 BB’s and 108 K’s in two years and he’s still young. Plus I like his size 6’4"
McCardell did have a nice year, didn't he?
…pitched very well in the FSL, then had that terrible first game with New Britain. After that he was very solid in AA. Expect he will begin back in AA with a real chance of moving up to Rochester during the season, if/when they need a starter.
Who do you see starting in Rochester this year?
My back of the envelope says Swarzak, Manship, Fox, Mullins and ? Does Devries move up?
It appears we’re going to have a logjam in AA though.

He's a reliever, probably going to Rochester
Along with Slama, Delaney Burnett and some others.

CMath...
…I wouldn’t be surprised if Burnett starts the year in New Britain. Was only there a half year and with Slama, Delaney, Lugo and probably Waldrop, the Rochester bullpen is gonna have lots of arms. I think Burnett belongs in Rochester, but having another half year as the NB closer wouldn’t hurt.
You're probably right

I see Gutierrez moving up
And DeVries. Mullins will start in the bullpen and spell Gutierrez when he starts to wear down.

Gutierrez
My guess would be that he starts as a starter in New Britain.
Devries could get one last shot as a starter in New Britain else a move to the bullpen.
Burnett definitely starts at New Britain.
The pickup from Boston is a reliever...
…Don’t know if DeVries will move up, had a great start last year then struggled the second half. Fox and Mullins were both very good, and probably should move up. Mullins hasn’t been great this winter, but it is fairly tough competition. Also may see Duensing at the start of the year in Rochester if the Twins end up in a numbers game with some pitchers out of options.
Unless we somehow keep Perkins
I think Duensing starts the year in the Twins rotation or the bullpen, depending on how Liriano looks in the spring. We’re going to need that second left hander, and it’s more important IMO for Duensing to continue to learn how to get big league hitters out, whether it’s in the bullpen or rotation.

Everything I hear says that isn't likely...
…but other than Mr. Smith’s first big move, he really appears to be a tough negotiator. While all indications are that Perkins will be gone by spring, if he can’t get what he feels is fair value…I don’t see him dumping a young starting lefthander who has had some periods of success. With that said, I believe it is highly probable that when the pitchers and catchers report, Mr. Perkins will not be reporting in Ft. Myers.
I like 'Guty'
He’s got guts. But I had to vote Salcedo. He’s still young enough to project to true ace potential. He may flame out (or get hurt) and Gutierrez may be solid (or even pretty good) but I don’t see true ace in his future.
As for others to vote on, Robertson, McCardell, Polanco, and Guillen sound good to me. Didn’t Polanco get the same bonus Kepler did? Lousy way to scout prospects, I know, but that is all I have to go on.
I’d rather have Singleton than Tolleson.
It can't be Gutierrez for me
until it looks like he’ll hold up as a starting pitcher. If it didn’t look like Gutierrez was currently on the reliever path (though I see us giving it one more year in the rotation), then I’d vote him over Salcedo.

Guti
I completely agree that he’s a bullpen guy in his future.
Han – not sure what you mean by ’he’s got guts?"

One thing's for sure
Jose Mijares is full of “guts”.

I voted Salcedo
I liked Salcedo’s numbers better than Gutierrez’s numbers, and Salcedo is also pretty young to be doing so well.

We didn't discuss this when we started this a few weeks ago...
…but if a runoff ends in a tie, the players will be tied. So if Gutierrez and Salcedo tie for prospect #14, it will be a tie and we will begin voting later today on Prospect #16.
Makes sense
When do we call it a tie?
