The Twins need infielder

The Twins need a new Third baseman. Nick Punto is an awesome fielder, he can pick anything that comes his way. But he can't hit to save his life. The acquisition of a player such as Adrian Beltre would increase our teams confidence, and excite twins fans. Clearly Beltre is an all-star caliber hitter. He averages over 20 home runs a year. He also won the NL MVP award in 2004, with 48 home runs, 121 RBI's and a .334 batting average. But what most people fail to realize is his underestimated fielding talent. Beltre has never had a Fielding% of less than .950 in his 12 year career, averaging only 17 errors a year. Beltre may be demanding more money than the Twins can offer him. If that is the case, maybe players such as Miguel Tejada, or Juan Uribe could be better fits, they are both all-star caliber players, but they will not get as much money as Beltre. I understand that these players do not play with the typical Twins style (piranha's, manufacturing runs), but I am personally more interested in winning a world series than keeping an image.

Whoa hold up

this is all so new to me, I need some time to let this sink in.

On that note

Beltre gets a ton of credit for his fielding. Fielding percentage and errors aren’t really that great of a way to prove that, however.

Sure it's Charlie Johnson

And not Charley Walters? That’s the kind of original thought I’d expect from Charley Walters.

Agree

Twins need something, somewhere, now, soon…hopefully!

Uribe?

Still think the Twins are mulling a couple of trades over signing some free agents.

Why?

Is there any reason it has to be soon? There are a ton of free agent second and third basemen on the market, so it’s not like they gain anything by overpaying for one now. The strategy they took last year with Crede was absolutely correct – they kept waiting and waiting, and they were able to get Crede fairly cheaply because he had no better options.

The trade market (if they go after Kouzmanoff, for example) is a bit different, as there might be some competition for his services, but otherwise I have no problem with this going unresolved until February.

I doubt it's beltre

I’m going to go out on a limb and say we aren’t making any more FA splashes. Perkins and possibly others will be packaged for either Uggla or Koz. I’m hoping we turn around and then ink a Crede/Glaus or a KJ to fill in the other hole. Heck, right now, I’d be quite happy if they just got a Crede/Glaus and KJ and then kept Perkins to be the 5th starter…

Glaus is signing with the Braves

Uribe and DeRosa may be heading to the Giants. The field is going to narrow, buy the prices will get better.

Post-holiday clearance

I have a feeling the prices will be outstanding come the end of January. I don’t see them getting Beltre but I’ve been surprised before. I foresee something like Kouzmanoff for Perkins and Felipe Lopez for 2 years $4M. There’s a lot of options, this is really the best year for acquiring 2B and 3B.

2nd base

i think were better off getting a 2nd basemen like lopez or hudson because we need a number 2 hitter…were not going to sign a 2nd basemen and 3rd basemen punto is starting and batting 9th, all that is left to figure out is where hes going to play

What people fail to realize

>>But what most people fail to realize is his underestimated fielding talent. Beltre has never had a Fielding% of less than .950 in his 12 year career, averaging only 17 errors a year.<<

What some people fail to realize is these are two largely worthless statistics.

Also, you say the team’s confidence. Details, please.

goodness,

can’t you tell from his writing alone that he is a kid?

your smug sarcasm and incessantly self congratulatory tone are obnoxious enough when your speaking to an adult, but you continue to show just how much of a boob you are when you reply this way to a 15 year old.

come on now guys or gentleman

its Christmas day so lets all get along, shall we?

I'd rather have Nick Punto playing 3B and Felipe Lopez playing 2B

than Punto playing 2B and Kouzy, Crede, DeRosa or Glaus playing 3B.

My thoughts

Beltre – agree with you that I would like him, but probably too expensive. Beyond fielding %, his UZR has also generally been very good – this stat measures not only errors, but also his range.

Tejada – Getting old, but he still seems productive. I’d be happy if we signed him, assuming it didn’t cost us too much.

Uribe – I hope we stay away from him. He had a good year last year with the Giants, but the few seasons before that he hasn’t hit well, and his defense hasn’t been stellar either.

The Twins will wait

till the end of Feb or Jan and sweep-up what’s left for cheep!!! I think they like what they have and will sign what’s left for competition in the Spring ( also waiting out Kos deal, they will not give up more then Perkins)
