Twinkie Town 2010 Top 50...Voting for Number 4

Congratulations to catcher Wilson Ramos for being named the THIRD best prospect in the Twins system by the readers of Twinkie Town.  There were a total of 179 votes cast in the third round with Ramos leading with 89 votes.  Kyle Gibson was second with 44 votes.

TwinkieBaseball mentioned in the comments that because this was really a two man race, we should keep all the remaining players on the ballot for selection of the Fourth best prospect.  That is a reasonable suggestion, so we will go with Chris Parmalee plus the group from yesterday's voting.

Seth and I will appreciate your suggestions for players to be added in the comments section.

The selections to date are:

1 - Miguel Jean (fka Miguel Angel Sano)

2 - Aaron Hicks

3 - Wilson Ramos

Bats

We’ve got some good arms, but were’s the bats? Rams,Velencia, Both have Power and good AVG. Parmelee and Rams Power, Revere-Avg and speed. . Will some of the younger player top these guys? Who’s going to step-up next year? Morales, Hicks, Pinto, Willams, R. Santana, Gonzales, McCullum, Benson, Dinkelman, Lis, Hughes. Who’s up for a big year. My guess Rams and Gonzales.

Ummm

the bats were #1-3 in these rankings. I might ask, where are the arms?

My fourth vote for Gibson

I went with Revere

simply because he hasn’t pitched an inning yet for the Twins. Even with his potential upside, I don’t want to vote for him quite this high.

I also voted Hicks for #1 for the exact same reason over Miguel Jean.

1-3

Jean has never taken one swing as a Pro. Kind of hard to say he’s the next Joe. Hicks has 2 seasons batted .318, 10doubles 4 hommers GCL and .254 15 and 4 at Beloit. He’s young, but the numbers don’t thrill me as the best hitter in the system. You want me to believe these are the best bats in the Minors. Ramos is solid, I’d like to see him get 400 at bats next year. I’m asking who’s going to step up. Hicks,Morales,Revere. Just a guess for fun, or a player you would like to see have a big Year. I’d like to see Dinkelman and Lis have good years.

by b1 on Dec 6, 2009 7:52 PM EST reply actions

I've been waiting for Lis to just mash for years.

Seeing Parmelee get a bit better in hitting for contact would be good too, but as long as he can continue to adapt and produce as he has, then he’ll still have value. But he’s young yet too, and hopefully he can pick up a few tricks yet.

Tyler Robertson, Kyle Gibson, those are two pitchers I want to do well next year.

I nominate Carlos Gutierrez to have on the list

If Alex Burnett must come off that is

(or maaaybe Billy Bullock)

Deolis Guerra = Daniel Cabrera ?
I tend to think so

please add another pitcher, Slama,Manship, one of the GCL pitchers.

I don't get it

Revere & Morales get no respect

by clutterheart on Dec 6, 2009 9:48 PM EST reply actions

I Went Revere

The guy is just solid and has produced. Think about how long it took Span to even look decent, and then he exploded. Revere has been a superlative hitter. Jason Tyner (or for that matter, I’d wager) Juan Pierre never flirted with .400 in the minors.

If Revere was a MI he’d be gold.

I’m not sure it’s a sign of a truly strong minor league system if two of the top three haven’t played professionally, and the other one hasn’t made it past low A.

by Han Joelo on Dec 6, 2009 10:43 PM EST reply actions

I don't like to compare Revere to Span

Span has always been an above average fielder. Span has always had power potential. Revere has always had an excellent batting eye and contact skills, which Span only recently acquired. In some respects, Revere has more upside than Span ever did. But in other respects, Span has more upside than Revere ever will. They are similar in some ways, but they are very different players.

Call it

I think the pitcher wins this round

DJL...

…I cut it off every day at 3pm. Usually post the next round about 15 minutes or so later.

Overall – I still would put my numbers as:

1.) Hicks
2.) Ramos
3.) Revere

Then start to throw Gibson and Jean somewhere after that. It’s too hard for me to put any player who hasn’t played a lick of pro ball in the top spot, when others have already proven in some aspect that they have strong potential.

I would also put Morales, Valencia, Parmalee, Salcedo, and Slama in the top 10.
