Twinkie Town 2010 Top 50...Runoff Vote for Prospect Numbers 6 & 7
With 135 votes cast for the Sixth best prospect in the organization, Danny Valencia led the way with 52 votes (38%) with Angel Morales a very close second with 46 votes (34%). The difference of 6 votes (about 4%) is within a vote of what we had determined as the cut-off for a runoff.
Because it is so very close, I have determined that we will have our first head-to-head runoff for the Sixth best prospect. Whoever receives the fewest votes will be slotted Seventh. Thursday we will move on to select prospect #8.
With so many players in each round receiving very few votes, I have been talking to Seth about lowering the number of players in each round to six or seven. Seth pointed out that we soon will be beyond the top most popular prospects and Twinkie Town readers will have a much more varied opinion of who should be next. Therefore, I will continue with eight prospects on Thursday.

Big list for round 8
I agree. Tosoni needs to be in that list for #8.
Morales
I agree with the idea that after this pick the votes should start getting spread around more, so please keep the variety. I’ll be going Bromberg.

I hope you add Max Kepler soon!

Seth commented about him today...
…and some reports indicate that athletically he could be an equal talent to Miguel Jean. Who knows, maybe a year from now he will be the #1 prospect in the system. And yes, he will be in the next round on Thursday.
I think we'll all be very interested to see minor league updates on Saturdays next season
Kind of a run on sentence there but with the addition of Gibson, Kepler, Polanco, and last but not least Jean we’ll all be very excited to see these guys first professional performances.
Peyton's good but have you ever heard of Jeff George?
It's hard to get
Pumped up on a 17 year old playing in the DSL league. At that age any one could claim to be the next Babe Ruth. For kicks are their any DSL kids still in the system, and how have they held up to their Hype. Mijares, lugo,Gambino,Ramos,Y Ortiz,Leveret,Romero,???? I don’t know if any of these guys had a lot of Hype or if they came from the DSL. Who is or has been the best player we have brought up from the DSL? Guzzmon, Liriano came in a trade so did Casilla.

He also led the second best team in the league...
…in hitting with an average that was amongst the top three in the league, albeit he didn’t have enough at bats to qualify because he didn’t start playing until after the International signing date. Expect that he is very special and we will see him next year. Players don’t have much hype from the DSL because until the last year or two very few fans (the general public) even knew the Twins had teams in the DSL and formerly in the VSL. There have been several young players that are very good who came out of the DSL the past several years…..Ramos, D.J. Romero, Adrian Salcedo and several starters from Elizabethton this year. The GCL Twins top hitter Oswaldo Arcia was also from the DSL last year. Plus, the Twins recent surprise addition to the 40-man roster, Estarlin De Los Santos, is a DSL alum. If you look at the GCL Twins the past few years, a large percentage of its roster are from the DSL and that trend is likely to continue.
Thank you
I’m trying to gauge the talent level for the league. Unfortunately not many players have come up to compare them with. I see most of the players from the GCL are Young. The US players must be 18yrs to signand start in the GCL. I guess the point is, how would Hicks have done at 16yrs in the DSL. Its hard to foresee a16yrs old future. I have a hard time placing a high value on such young kids.
I totally agree with that b1...
…which is why I couldn’t vote for Jean as the Top Prospect. But unlive 4-5 years ago, there has been a lot more info coming out of the DSL and winter leagues and we learn more about these young prospects. Add to that a little controversy and a $3,150,000 payment by the Twins of all organizations and one can understand the hype surrounging Jean. And in this case, hype leads to optimism. We will get our first chance to see him next summer.
Was curious how many GCL Twins in 2009 were from the DSL...
…so I went back and checked. A total of 11 players with DSL experience played the entire year or most of the year for the GCL Twins. They were led by Ace starter Adrian Salcedo and one of the better young outfielders in the organization, Oswaldo Arcia. Others include Cardenas, Alvarez, Doran, Gonzalez, Jhon Garcia, Parra, Arias, shortstop Daniel Santana and Perez. How many make it to the Twins from this group, no one knows. I expect Salcedo has an excellent chance not only to make it but to be a front line starter.
I don't think you could have a GCL team without the young DSL kid comming up
their’s not that many Highshcool kids drafted to fill the roster.

Morales v Valencia
Valencia has the advantage of being closer to the majors and being a third baseman which is more valuable positionally than any outfielder. Morales has the advantage of youth and upside/tools. I don’t think Morales sticks in CF and his bat doesn’t look like Morneau’s so I went with the surer thing in Valencia.
I was thinking we would need a coin flip. But then, a tie for sixth wouldn't be te worst thing
