Rockies Sign Lew Ford

Insidetherockies.com has the story

Lew Ford, a right-handed hitting outfielder, signed a minor league contract with the Rockies. The 32-year-old Ford played all or parts of five seasons with the Twins before going to Japan in 2008 where he batted 129 times in 47 games for the Hanshin Tigers and hit .225 with three homers and 11 RBI.

Ford’s best season with the Twins was 2004 when he hit .299 with 15 homers, 72 RBI, a .381 on-base percentage and 20 stolen bases in 154 games. He played 147 games for them in 2005 and hit .264 with seven homers and 53 RBI.

Best of luck

That 2004 line was pretty impressive. He never came close to that level of play after.

I like him on another team.

I’m not sure how long he’ll stick. I wish him the best, and it’d be nice to see him make a comeback for a year, but I just don’t think it’s in the cards.

AAAA

Lew was a good player for about four months, until major league pitchers figured out that you either pitch him away or way in. Anything on the inside corner,he’ll yank down the line. Everything else will be an out. He came up when pitchers lived on the inside corner because most teams had lumbering power hitters who leaned out over the plate to drive the pitch on the outside corner. So they pitched to his strengths while pitching to the leagues weaknesses. Once they figured out how to pitch him, he stunk. And he never made the adjustments to take the outside pitch the other way and use his speed, at least not consistently.

Why he went to Japan instead of AAA is a mystery. Japanese pitchers do what he sucks at: Soft toss on the outside corner. He ended up getting sent to Japanese AAA which is the equivalent of high A over here, and still didn’t do so hot. If he can re-establish himself in AAA this year, he might makes a fourth outfielder for an injury-riddled team late in the year. But I don’t see him even as a long-term major league bench player.

Ah, Lew.........

Joing the Michael Ryans, Mike Restovichs, Dustan Mohrs of Twins back-up outfielders trying to find a major league job, not to mention the “hot” rookies of the likes of Garrett Guzman, Trent Oeltjen, Alex Romero and…Kevin West!

And don't forget Garret Jones, Darnell MacDonald and Bobby Kielty

Good to see some real talent in the Twins outfield now.

LEEEW

In my MLB 2k5 game, Lew batted about .408 with something like 50 home runs.

If this takes the need to scapegoat someone, anyone,

off of LNP, then I am all for it.

Funny how in a group, we always need a goat. It’s what brings us together.

That is the basis of racism after all: the need to belong to a self-determined superior group.

Go Lew!

why do you feel

a need to bring up all these political issues all the time? just make your point and shut up I say.

I can't make my point and shut up

Don’t respond if you don’t like my perspective.

But if it makes you feel good to tell people to shut up whom you have never met, then I say, grow a life.

The world is unlikely to conform to the narrow confines of your prejudices.
