Twins @ Red Sox Game thread
Notes:
- The Mayor's Cup is on the line, so let's go get 'em boys!
- It is good to see Morales get his first start in the spring, considering that he is the favorite to temporarily replace Joe Mauer on the roster coming north.
- I'll be watching Mijares closely to see if he can bounce back from his disastrous outing the other day. He didn't deserve to give up four runs (only one if two catchable fly balls had been caught) but he still did not pitch well--everything was up and flat.

8. Jose Morales, C.

MLB audio stream
The Twins site doesn’t list the actual audio stream for this game. I have a subscription and yet the only link they ever post on their site is the link to how to subscribe. It’s maddening. Anyway, for those who want the audio feed:. Now if we can only get them to link to the Gamday for the game rather than that stupid live boxscore. It makes no sense to me that they don’t provide links to services that they’re producing. Kelly Theiser, if you’re reading this, you know what to do.

AGREED!
It is a frustrating exercise to bring up both the audio and the gameday right now. I suspect that will be fixed when the regular season starts but for right now it is very frustrating for someone who has already paid.

doesn't really matter
as gameday is so far behind now that it is irrelevant most of the time.

radio said Cuddyer popped a double
and that Gomez is batting now, but gameday still has Cuddyer yet to see a pitch.

Another walk for GoGo

Yeah, an interesting AB
he got to 1-2 by swinging at a slider low and away. Then he took a couple of curves that he probably would have swung at last year, then ball 4 was a fastball that had him totally locked up and was probably a strike, but the ump missed it.
He certainly looks more hitterish than he did last year.

Span loops an RBI single
2-1 Twins. Bases still loaded. Theyre not hitting it hard, just hitting ‘em where they ain’t.

When do we start getting worried about Baker's HRs?
"You're thinking too much. Just have fun." -- Bennie "The Jet" Rodriguez in Sandlot
Not for a while yet
Look, Baker’s a flyball pitcher with middle-of-the-road stuff. He’s going to give up some homers. In large part, the relative success of his seasons is going to be based on how many of his fly balls go over the fence—something he doesn’t have a ton of control over.
As long as the walks stay low and the K’s stay reasonable, I won’t worry about it.

Jack Morris was talking on the radio...
…that Baker needs to be successful pitching up in the zone. And to do that, he needs more velocity and movement on his fastball. He doesn’t have the velocity yet, but he should be ok when it comes.
Would be great for the radio crew...
…to know how to pronounce the names of the Twins. Jack Morris is calling Mijares (mo-rah-hus), while Gordo is saying it correctly. After several times saying the wrong name, Gordo must have gotten to Jack as he now has it correct! Ah, spring training.
Clarification
I believe that is Kris Atteberry…. not John Gordon…. who is continuously correcting Jack.
As a side note, I think Atteberry’s play by play is very good – my only problem is I can’t separate his voice from all the “postgame download” ads from last year. I wonder if he is going to get a shot at calling some regular season games.
At least Jack...
…has now apologized several times. Yes, it is Atteberry.
I like Atteberry
He has his priorities straight: Call the game first. Fill dead air with analysis between the action.
Gordo is the worst at this. For example, Liriano was making his spring training debut against the Yankees and Gordo launches into an analysis of the Orioles in the first inning! He did not call a single pitch of the first inning of Liriano’s spring debut because he was talking about the team that will likely be last in the AL East! He didn’t even wait for the subs and scrubs to come in before wasting air time on a team that was not even playing in that game! That is Gordo to a T. He has no sense of boundaries during game action.
Atteberry does his job, which is all I care about from a play-by-play guy.

yeah and Span today too,
but another ugly game for Crede

well, that is why he is getting a lot
of at-bats. His timing has to be off a little bit still…its hard to jump back into baseball after back surgery and have your timing there…it would usually take about 3 weeks for your timing to come around again.
Casilla
I’m glad Casilla looks as if he’s showed up ready to play this spring. He’s a spark plug for the team when he carries his weight with the bat.
"You can't sit on a lead and run a few plays into the line and just kill the clock. You've got to throw the ball over the damn plate and give the other man his chance. That's why baseball is the greatest game of them all."
