I’m not sure if I consider 4 walks promising. If he is turning into more of a “pitcher” than a “thrower”, and relying on the slider less, he is going to need to cut down on the walks. I’m assuming it will take some time to get a feel for the changeup, but this is the key thing to watch, IMO.

I don’t think he’s a thrower. It just takes time to have consistent command in the spring. Two outings ago, he was hitting his spots with all three pitches. Last time, he had command of two. Yesterday, he didn’t have command of any. He’ll get there.

I’m not saying I’m worried. I was just disagreeing with Danoo’s comment that it looked like Liriano pitched well. I’m not complaining, especially since I haven’t actually watched him pitch yet. Still, the keys to his success this year will be, a) velocity, b) ability to throw strikes with each of his three pitches, and c) being able to fall back on that slider when he needs to.
