Back to Business
Hey everyone,
In case you've been wondering where I've been for the last week, I took a trip home from the UK for the first time since moving over...and ran into a flood in Fargo. And a blizzard. And also, more water.
I grew up in Breckenridge, MN, and saw first-hand what kind of damage a major flood can do. This year's flood somehow managed to be worse (two 500-year floods in eleven years, really?), but yet again I find myself humbled and inspired by the kind of support shown in the Red River Valley and surrounding regions over the last few days. They say that nothing pulls people together like adversity, and while the conditions aren't something I'd wish on anyone, it's a very warming thing to be a part of.
At any rate, I'm now back in the UK, and starting tomorrow morning our front page business will be back to business as usual.
I know the battle isn't over yet, but I'm incredibly proud of the people living up and down the Red River and the surrounding areas, and I'm proud to call that area of the States home. Thanks as well to all the others who came from around the country to help. Every body and hand was needed.
Thanks to everyone, and I'll see you tomorrow!
Jesse

I agree with your sentiments.
I’m from Grand Forks and was also around in 1997. I hope your family hasn’t been too badly affected by the floods. While I’m sure it wasn’t too much fun, I’m sure you’re glad you got to be here and help out.
Fargo
I live in the heart of Fargo this week and it seriously choked me up the first day I walked in the Fargodome to sandbag and saw thousands of people. At many times during the past week they were actually turning away volunteers at many locations. It really is a testament to the type of people living in this area. It was crazy to see how many people came from far away to help too. I ran into people from all over the region that had traveled here just to help.
Peyton's good but have you ever heard of Jeff George?
'preciate it Jesse
Kind words and thoughts are greatly appreciated. Especially when it doesn’t involve getting drunk and running your car into one of the levies holding back the largest flood in recorded F-M history. We’re not all that dumb, I swear…
But seriously, it’s been an exhausting 2 weeks for those in the valley. And yet amazing. As halfchest said – there were too many volunteers at times. What an incredible problem to have and speaks volumes to the people who live in northland.
There are great people here.
And there are terrible people here. We need to be careful we don’t turn this into a Hymn to North Dakota.
There are great people everywhere, and terrible people too. We’re no better, and no worse that your friends in the UK, or people along the Nile.
Unless the person is a Yankees fan. Yankees fans, and this is scientifically proven, are simply all bad.
