Silva's Pitch Selection
Over at FanGraphs, Dave Cameron breaks down Carlos Silva's pitch selection during his start in the Dome on Wednesday. It appears Silva relied heavily on his sinker, almost exclusively so, prompting the question: can a guy succeed with one pitch?

On relying on one pitch
I think he proved beyond a shadow of a doubt when he was with the Twins that he cannot rely on the sinker alone. He needs secondary pitches. The problem with Silva is he doesn’t have any consistent secondary pitches. Some games, his slider is crisp and he can dominate. Some games his change-up is working and he can be effective. A lot of games, neither pitch is working and he’s a BP pitcher. That’s what he was on day 3. He couldn’t have accommodated Morneau better if he’d put that ball on a T. If Morneau ends up at the Home Run Derby again, he should have Silva pitch to him and throw that pitch over and over.
