Torii Hunter wants to come back to MInnesota - after he's done getting paid by the Angels, that is. Nick Punto better get his face in sparring shape by 2014.

yeah, right ....

It’s really hard to take anything Torii says seriously after the way he tried to play the fans through the media his last year in Minnesota.

So he’s going to comeback with the twins?
As a coach?

I would love to see him back.

He was, in my mind, the star of the three peat NL central Twins. It was when I was just getting into baseball and he was the face of the franchise, he needed to make the money, so why not? If he continues to be productive and hits for his average amounts of hits in his career and he could be at 2,176 hits. A couple more hits and he’s in the 2,500 range… There’s not a lot of guys who had 2,500 hits and aren’t in the HOF.

He'd have to be happy in RF or something

b/c I don’t know if there would be much left in the tank as a CF’er.
Once upon a time I’d never write this but I hope he doesn’t come back.

Ok, sure.

If he’s willing to sign for a decent salary, if he’s willing to play a corner OF position and if there’s actually space on the roster…sure. But in 2014, the only one of the five Twins outfielders on the major league roster who would actually be on the down slide of their career would be Michael Cuddyer.

You can never tell what a team will look like five years in the future. But I’m not opposed to the idea fundamentally.

In 2014

The starting outfield will be Revere, Hicks and Morales. Gomez should still be in the mix. Ditto Span. I doubt Torii will beat those five guys out.

Hunter will be pretty much useless to the Twins by then but...

…we’ll probably sign him for 5 million for one year and he’ll hit .216 with 3 home runs and whiff every other time up.

I'm willing to bet

…that for one reason or another, at least one of Revere, Hicks, or Morales will not be in the Twins’ starting outfield in 2014.

+1

I say 50% chance that more than 2 of Revere, Hicks, Morales, Span and Gomez are starting for the Twins in 2014. That’s pretty good too, to say that 2 of the 3 spots in the lineup are settle 5 years in advance. Maybe I’m even being too aggressive.

5 years is a long time. Also, I say 5% chance that Torii has another at-bat for the Twins.

Torii

the Craig Monroe of the future.

alright that's just too damn funny to quibble with

so instead I’ll posit this thought and risk taking a beating for it. Hunter wants to be recognized. He will never make the HOF, of course, but if he had played his entire career with the Twins he was a near sure bet for having his jersey retired and a Twins HOF – so I suspect that he might be motivated to come back as a DH/part time OF (ala Griffey Jr.) in order to create some good will, some nostalgia, and create that opportunity for the Twins to recognize him in retirement…?
