Game 21: Twins vs Rays

Tampa Bay Rays at Minnesota Twins, Apr 28, 2009 8:10 PM EDT

First Pitch: 7:10 pm
TV: FSN (HD)
Radio: Twins Radio Network
Know Thine Enemy: DRaysBay

Francisco Liriano toes the rubber for the Twins tonight. He hasn't pitched as bad as his numbers, but one inning he dominates and the next inning he's wild. Hopefully he can get into a good groove and have a solid start that's consistent inning to inning. James Shields takes the hill for the Rays, sporting a 2-2 record and a 3.67 ERA as the Rays most consistent starter (and no relation to this James Shields, founder of Shieldsville Minnesota, a stone's throw from my house).

As usual, we'll have a recap immediately following the game.

New picture for Frisco

let’s hope it brings new and better results for his start.

I’m not sure I like what Shield’s picture says though, it could be saying Shields is going to knock our ass out.

Well...

He didn’t land that punch. So here’s hoping he misses tonight.

by .mnqwerd on Apr 28, 2009 6:30 PM EDT reply actions

My prediction tonight

is that between Cuddyer and Crede, Shields will miss at least 7 of 8 bats…

Way to stay positive

The Twins did manage to get an extra lefty in there with Buscher; two if you count Morales. So perhaps that’ll balance things out.

well I did say "could be saying"

and yes he didn’t land the punch, I didn’t look that closely.

Swing and a miss!

wait, isn’t that what a pitcher wants?

@Montana

My wife and I will be driving through Montana, from N.D. to Yellowstone. Any recommendations — restaurants, hotels, things to do?

If you want a chance to see wolves

I’d recommend getting up real early and taking a hike through the Lamar Valley at dawn – or at sunset.

Kubel

Last time Kubel played left field, he hit for the cycle, i believe.

Who's the ump tonight?

Dude’s slow with the visual call.

MLB.TV ASLEEP AT THE SWITCH

None of the 7pm central games are available on MLB.TV either video or even audio. Someone at MLB is asleep at the switch!

Home run, Morneau!
Good to see him hit as DH. Hopefully 1st base wont be a liability with Buscher. I really am worried everytime someone other than morneau plays first.

by ianmader on Apr 28, 2009 8:32 PM EDT reply actions

Well two good innings from Liriano, but 34 pitches already,

At that rate he’ll be out by the 6th inning again and we will have to use the bullpen for three, not four…

by montanatwinsfan on Apr 28, 2009 8:39 PM EDT reply actions

Yep.

Unless Gardy lets Brian Buscher do a straight steal.

also regarding Yellowstone

if you only lan on getting out here once you might want to schedule a day trip south of the Park through Teton National Park. The Tetons are the nicest set of mountains I’ve seen yet. Breathtaking.

Hmm

Hmm wow, Liriano with 3 K’s, one hit, no walks, 4-2 GB/.FB ratio. Lookin’ good I guess.

Boston and Cleveland

tied at 7 apiece in only the third inning! looks like a real pitchers duel.

Casilla

I’m ready for Gardy to start mixing in Harris a bit more, but have him at short and slide Punto to 2nd. Gardy gave him the 2009 2nd base job last Sept., but I’ve wondered about a sophmore slump for both he and Span. Fortunately Span has come out strong.

Good for Alexi on the double. I just had to start writing for him to hit the double.

O.K. Alexi

you haven’t had many hits this season, but you sure are trying to make a run at having some of the most important ones…

The thing is

he was doing this as soon as the season started in Rochester. I said this before, but he might just be one of those guys who perform when it matters but have habits that make management nuts. Like being overweight and pitching lousy in spring training.

Phew, smart play by Span

at first I thought it was pretty stupid, but Gladden did a good job of explaining why it was a heads up play.

Harris walks

yeah right….he went but he sold it…good job by Harris.

Morneau has a chance to win the game!
