Official Complain About Joe Mauer Discussion
Yeah, he's tearing it up. But he's supposed to be perfect, not just incredible. Continue to point out the shortcomings of Minnesota's Golden Boy in the comments.
At current pace (1 HR/9 AB), even if he somehow gets 500 at-bats this season, he will hit less than 60 homers.
All of his homeruns are to the opposite field, so we are robbed of the grandeur of upper-deck blasts.
Complete lack of exciting stolen bases and triples.
Just barely on pace to break Bonds' OPS record.
Only 1-for-6 catching baserunners stealing, and the one CS was at third (NOTE: this is actually a legitimate criticism, although the fact that every Twins catcher sucked terribly at this makes me think a lot of it is the pitchers' fault).
At current pace, will not become the first player to bat in the .400s since Ted Williams.
No sacrifice flies, after leading the league last year.
No longer dating Miss America, as far as I know.

Not batting 1.000
I’m tired of his lacsidasical attitude.

Lets Punto touch his butt, after extensive warning from other team mates.

CS
Joe’s usually stellar defensively, so I’m not super concerned. By all accounts Morales is a bit of a rock behind the plate, so it’s perhaps a little unfair to blame it on the pitchers.
Also, he’s got six hits fewer than he has RBI. If there’s nobody on in front of you, why not just put it in the seats? Slacker.

Partially agreed
Joe’s only had 6 SB attempts against him, so this could also be a sample size issue, too.
As for Morales, though, he was the one guy who actually did throw a runner out. I believe the Twins were 1-for-24 at preventing stolen bases (not counting pickoffs) before Mauer came off the DL. Redmond’s not Pudge Rodriguez or anything, but he’s also not completely useless back there, and an 0-for-10 streak doesn’t seem terribly likely.
Back on topic… Joe has not figured out a way to make Jesse Crain effective.

He's not on my fantasy baseball team
…but I do face his owner this week. Mauer’s a jerk. Let someone else on the team hit the snot out of the ball:)

sideburns are wimpy
hasn’t stole home yet…total slacker!
He thinks he’s so cool with those sideburns but women really go crazy for this guy:

Lack of enthusiasm
Let’s not forget that he is so calm and collected while hitting the snot out of the ball that it is CLEAR he is not taking this whole baseball thing seriously. When is this guy finally going to slide uselessly into first base or get himself thrown out of a game for yelling at an ump? Hopefully Punto will rub off on him, soon. I can’t handle this calm collected fantastic baseball play.

You are all playing with fire
much like the Twins bullpen. I sure hope we don’t all get burned here.
What if He is reading all this thinking, “They’re right, my uni hasn’t gotten dirty all year, I’m sliding into 1B on the next ball I hit!” and pulls a Cuddyer (well when he slide into 3B)?
Not too mention you are all guilty of blasphemy against our divine baby joe jebus! What will it take for all of you to believe His greatness!?!?! Must you place your finger on his bat? Must you grab His ass!?!?!?
Only His first disciple Punto may touch His greatness!
Bow your heads and believe!
Ha Ha Ha, where the hell am I indeed!

He only has 2 more hits than Nick Punto this year.
by TMW on May 13, 2009 10:23 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
now that would be sad
especially if he had as many ABs as Punto.

therefore Punto is better, I believe.

His sideburns have the power to cure cancer, but instead he’s only harnessed their power for 4 opposite field blasts this year. If your gonna let people die of cancer, I expect at lest 6 every 2 weeks.
He won’t hit in both his and Delmon’s spot in the lineup in the same game.
I’m sick of reading about all his late night partying antics. He needs to focus on the team.
He also refuses to play QB for the Vikings, or Forward for the Wolves.
He has fewer career cycles than Kubel or Gomez.
In order to make room for him 5 years ago, the Twins had to trade away AJ and all they got in return were Nathan, Liriano, and Bonser.
I can’t write anymore, I’m too angry.

I'm not done, I just had to cool down for a few hours
I have never seen him battle his tail off. Ever.
Only two batting titles?
I’m so tired of all the drama between him and the pitching staff. He needs to learn some maturity.
He has the ugliest swing probably in MLB history.
One time Punto really wanted 3 scoops of ice cream in a waffle cone but Joe only bought him 2. IN A REGULAR SUGAR CONE!
He’s totally blocking Butera’s bat.
He makes me feel like less of a man. Wait…

Helmet head
I can’t tell if he has his helmet on or if that is his ’do. Does he get a free bowl of soup with that cut?

wimp!
He doesn’t speak up for himself when people criticize him. He needs to show more backbone, instead of just quietly taking it all.
He needs to show more leadership, too — I can’t remember the last time he trashed one of his own teammates in the press.
Nothing shows leadership like punching a teammate. Or calling out players for missing games due to injury. If you’re hurt you should brag about it as a badge of honor of how hard you play, not keep silent and act like you’re not even trying.
Also he doesn’t show enough aggressiveness at the plate. He needs to take the bat off his damn shoulder instead of settling for all those walks.
Also he’s left-handed. Much lesser hitters make the effort to be switch-hitters. Imagine how much better he could be if he didn’t refuse to move to the other side of the plate against lefties.
He refuses to offer to move to third base, selfishly causing his body to needlessly wear down.
He hasn’t promised to stay in Minnesota regardless of salary — he should publicly commit to a huge hometown discount.
These recent homers just show he wasn’t trying hard enough previously.

the best line
“These recent homers just show he wasn’t trying hard enough previously.”
what a douche! He could have been hitting like this for years now.
he doesn’t seem to understand that you have your career year, the year before FA the year before the year before
oh and he cock blocks all his teamates b/c he keeps telling the ladies that his sideburns are a sign of his virility! Other dudes on the team need some action too Joe!

he had an inflamed sacroiliac joint, possibly the funniest sounding body part, as it utilizes the ‘k’ sound twice!

I had an inflamed sacroiliac before,
…but it wasn’t after a night of baseball!

Sac-o-what?
Injured it in an unfortunate accident at the doctor’s office. Turn your head and cough.

Mauer Power
Gardenhire said before the season started that Mauer is a power hitter who had been hitting for contact. This is probably due to his upbringing in the Twins system. His power surge this year was undoubtedly planned.
