Juan Rincon Designated for Assignment
Former bullpen ace Juan Rincon has been DFA'd by the Tigers in order to make roster space for high-leg kick man, aka Dontrelle Willis. Rincon actually struck out 10 in 10.1 innings, which was good. It was the six walks and 12 hits that spelled his doom.
Juan's fastball has lost 2.5 mph since 2005, and since then has become increasingly reliant on what's become a less effective slider. This year just 51% of his first pitches went for strikes, and in general hitters just weren't swinging at what he threw. Only 75 of his 193 pitches had induced a swing.
Rincon is still just 30 years old, and should be able to latch on somewhere on a minor league contract.

Over - Under our fellow posters suggesting the Twins should have seconds of Rincon?

At TwinkieTown?
I’m going to put the over/under at 1/2… and I’ll take the under. Not a lot of love for ol’ Juan here in the last few years.

Very true
maybe if it was July and the Twins were in last people would be calling Billy and saying they should just take a shot on him.
something like: “Mauer is so great, he can fix Rincon, he could probably add those missing 2.5 mph by his shear catching greatness”
Yup no chance he’s a Twin again

one vote "no"
Rincon hasn’t been “inconsistent” since his name came up in the same sentence as “steroids” – - – he’s been consistently bad.
My recollection is his fastball was low-mid to mid 90’s before … you wouldn’t think losing 2.5 mph would be such a big problem.

He's been done for three years
Somehow three organizations in the Central Division had to learn the hard way.

He's 30,
pitched fewer than 500 big-league innings and made more than $6 million dollars, not counting big-league meal money and free shoes.
We’d all take it.
