Game 39: Twins @ Yankees

Minnesota Twins at New York Yankees, May 18, 2009 7:05 PM EDT

First Pitch:  6:05pm CDT
TV:  FSN (and ESPN for all you national folks)
Radio:  Twins Radio Network
Know Thine Enemy:  Pinstripe Alley

Probables:

W-L G GS CG SHO SV BS IP H R ER HR BB K ERA WHIP
2009 - Glen Perkins 1-2 7 7 0 0 0 0 46.1 43 22 22 4 12 26 4.27 1.19

After tossing three gems in his first three games, Perkins hasn't pitched a particularly good game since.  The lefty's been knocked out at the six-inning mark or before in each of his last four starts, and has given up four or five runs in each of those games.

W-L G GS CG SHO SV BS IP H R ER HR BB K ERA WHIP
2009 - Andy Pettitte 3-1 7 7 0 0 0 0 45.0 47 22 20 5 15 25 4.00 1.38

Pettitte is more or less in the same boat as Perkins - he hasn't finished seven innings since mid-April, either.  In his last start, though, he got the win against Toronto, tossing six innings and giving up just one earned run.  The lefty is 8-5 all-time against the Twins.

He's also a known, admitted HGH abuser.  Way to help the game of baseball, Andy!

Harris Ground Rule Double

followed by a Mauer single up the middle. 1-0. Good start off Pettitte.

ESPN

needs to check out their graphics. I’m pretty sure Kubel doesn’t have a .927 On Base %

Pretty nice OPS though!

Tonight for sure, since the Pens are on, but I dont know. They piss me off every night so I don’t see why I would do this all the time.

Based on his first three outings, you would think he had established himself

Since then, he’s been Dan Serafini II.

Alright, who was the asshole who told me this was on national t.v.?

I coulda had a productive hour that first inning putting together a perpetual motion machine or maybe figuring out nuclear fusion, instead I watched the worst hour of baseball t.v. of my life!

: )

thats o.k. – I was of course kidding. Glad to finally watch a game even if it means I’m ignoring my three year old a little, and developing an ulcer…

Note:

If Mauer continues to hit 6 Homers and have 17 RBIs for every 57 ABs. Here will be his numbers at the end of the season:

456 ABs (57×8...guessing here)

48 HR

136 RBI

This is why I don't manage a MLB team

but I would have left Perkins out there…

“you wanna come in? well I guess you better finish your chores!”

Nice to see Dickey not give up more runs so far

Nice to see Cuddyer hit a HR, sucks Mauer has missed 2 so far

When you walk out of the bullpen… you better watch your back

by caluofmn on May 18, 2009 9:00 PM EDT reply actions

I would have left Perk out there too,

But I have to admit you and I would have been wrong.

Dickey has done a good job.

Bad decision by Jeter there,

he coulda taken three steps back and made that catch!

Ayala just needs to bring John Hirschbeck with him wherever he goes.

That’s all it takes – the ump leaning into both dugouts to call guys out!

one pitch and a fly ball

did he even try, were his eyes open or did he just think his natural talent would take over?

by caluofmn on May 18, 2009 9:36 PM EDT up reply actions

how much effort does it say just take the first pitch…obviously balls were being thrown (hence cuddyar getting walked…)

That Mets trade is continuing to piss me off!

Don’t let the burning door singe your butt on the way out.

BTW: Why the heck do they keep playing that tape of Punto at Monument Park. Gack.

because its Mauer

I think he has a hard time swinging at 2-0 pitches

by bheidge on May 18, 2009 10:02 PM EDT up reply actions

he can barely swing at 1-0 or 0-1
Mauer has seen 4.31 pitches per plate appearance this season and has swung at the first pitch only twice in the 68 times he’s dug into the batter’s box. That’s a taking rate of 97.1 percent, easily the highest among all players with at least 15 plate appearances. Heck, Mauer doesn’t swing at the next offering much either, having taken cuts on only 12 of 67 second pitches.

4 game sweep

lovely! should have won 3 of the 4 and probably all 4

by BCTwins on May 18, 2009 10:38 PM EDT reply actions

I think it should have been a sweep the other way

if they had done better with RISP and if they had a decent bullpen

by caluofmn on May 18, 2009 11:17 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree 100%

if we had anybody in the bullpen that we could trust, beside Mijares, we probably would have been able to win 3 of 4. The offense stunk up the games with RISP.

by BCTwins on May 19, 2009 9:17 PM EDT up reply actions

Well, three of four, anyway

We just choked with RISP
