6/20 Twins Autograph Party and Astros Game
I will be coming up to the Cities from Madison, WI for the June 20th Astros game and attending the Autograph Party beforehand. I was wondering if any of you have been to the AP before and how long I should expect to wait in line for the big names like Mauer, Morneau, Killebrew and Carew?
Both my girlfriend and I will be going through the lines and I was wondering how many of them I can reasonable expect to get in the time allotted? Outside of the AP, are there any other suggestions you can give me to make my first Twins game a pleasurable one?
Thanks,
Adrian

Autographing
Mauer and Morneau (and maybe Carlos Gomez)…people start lining up before 7 a.m., if the spots are posted. If you get to those lines first, you can usually score some other autographs.
Last year, I went to get in line for Killebrew before 2 p.m. (he was signing at 2:30). The line was already quite long. I decided not to stay. I found out I wouldn’t have goten an autograph.
If you don’t go after the big names of current players, you can possibly do 4-5 (of 12 stations). It’s a lot of standing around. It can be hot (with sun), wet (with rain).
Last year I got Crain/Redmond/Neshek, Perkins/Everett/Liddle, Cuddyer/Breslow/Ullger, Hernandez/Anderson/Harris, Lamb/Boof/Gomez, Baker/Buscher/Macri in the first session. But only because I got in the Gomez line early.
I only went after Aggie in the second.
Carew’s line can go a bit faster, but I don’t believe he signs bats.

Twins game
I find that getting drunk before a twins game is a good idea. Makes the dome a more bearable place, or an even less bearable place, depending on what kind of drunk you are, but regardless, its a baseball game, drink some alcohol!
Also, be warned, if you are sitting in the cheap seats, cops will pat you down as you enter and confiscate your flask, so either hide it well or drink it all before! Either that or pay $6.75 for a bud lite.
Oh yeah, if you don’t feel like paying to get in, and don’t mind missing a few innings, just wait until people are having a smoking break in one of many fenced off areas and squeeze in and proceed to enter the dome. I saw Casilla’s walk off victory (vs. seattle) for free this way.
As everyone is leaving, complain loudly about how crappy the dome is

the Metrodome
Everyone who I’ve talked to mentions how crappy the dome is without being prompted. At this point my expectations are extremely low. I think I’m actually going to be disappointed if the place isn’t a complete dump like everybody says. How bad is the Metrodome in reality? Any good(meaning horror stories) concerning the place?
Plus since I’m gonna be there all day are there any specialty ballpark foods that are unique to Twins games or just stand out compared to other stadiums?

There is the legend of the restricted view seat
that faces 180 degrees away from the field, which you watch through a mirror affixed to the dome.
Seek it out. If you dare.

Dome Dogs?
Does it differ from a regular hot dog?

Autograph Party Strategy
Last year a friend and I waited in the Morneau/Tolbert line for 3 hours. One of us held the place in line while the other cruised through the other players lines then we switched. We got a ton of autographs this way. And know the players’ names. Nothing is more annoying than someone asking a player who they are. Talk to them a little and be sure to say thanks!
The beer in the Dome is 3.2 beer.

Thanks for the tips. I’ll do some homework ahead of time so that I recognize faces. Can I get quality beer? Does Summit have a stand somewhere? I can’t stand Bud products.
