Twins "In Play" For Brad Penny?
Gordon Edes of Yahoo! Sports posted this speculation on his blog Full Count earlier this week. I ignored it, because it seemed ludicrous. But now, still emotionally distraught after seeing Francisco Liriano dismantled piece by piece for the 422nd time this season, I have to wonder: are the Twins actually considering this?

I doubt it
that looks more like a list of teams that need pitching, rather than a list of teams interested in Penny.

Why?
This would be a misuse of resources of a rather high order.

No thanks
I’d rather trade an OF (Cuddyer or Young?) to help fill Boston’s need for OF depth…the article notes the Red Sox are scouting Francouer. If I were them, I’d much rather have Cuddyer. I could live with Span-Gomez in LF-CF, then Young or Kubel at RF/DH.
In return? Something like Masterson + a minor league hitter. I’d like Lowrie, but he’s probably a bridge too far unless we included a young catcher.
Lowrie
I think our biggest need right now is at shortstop. So I’d take a Young for Lowrie trade straight up.

And the odds of such a deal..
Slim-to-none.
Epstein loves Jed.
Delmon is loved by the organization for his high-ceiling potential.
I don’t think they’d take Delmon, just for how much of a bust he’s been since his call-up.
