Starting Pitchers
Garza gets his first shot at the Twins in 2009 this afternoon, and he's looking to bounce back from a rough start against the Indians as well as extracting a little bit of that frustration he's always shown for the franchise. He's still a big fastball guy who throws a pair of breaking balls, occasionally mixing in the off-speed pitch. This season he's getting more ground balls, which has helped him a little bit, but after his last start his home run rates have jumped as well. Like Liriano, Garza has a history of getting into his own head a bit, so if the Twins can jump on him early they might have some success. Allowing Garza to get into a groove is never a good thing.
Nick has been what the Twins have needed him to be, and along with Kevin Slowey and a pleasantly surprising Anthony Swarzak has been giving the team a healthy dose of quality starts. As always, for Blackburn to be effective he needs to stay around the strike zone and induce contact. If he keeps the ball low, he'll continue to get ground balls and avoid the home run.

Peyton's good but have you ever heard of Jeff George?
Radio listeners:
If anybody’s following the game on 1500 today, I’m doing the “GameDay Chatter” segment on the postgame show – 60 seconds of me complaining, followed by Kris Atteberry and Jack Morris making fun of me.
Yeah, I came to ask that question
would you pinch hit Mauer in that situation and gone to Tolbert at 2nd? I think I would have

I would have too,
unless they really didn’t want to use Joe outside of an emergency. With any kind of lead, maybe they didn’t want to push their luck.
Mijares has been a godsend
And Nathan is still getting it done

Guerrier has been effective, too.
Not as confident as Mijares or Nathan, but he’s been an essential bit.
And as much as it’s strange to say, so has Dickey. In his role, sure…but he’s been useful.
