Game 28: Minnesota Twins @ Baltimore Orioles

Minnesota Twins at Baltimore Orioles, May 6, 2009 7:05 PM EDT

First Pitch:  6:05 pm CDT
TV: Fox Sports North
Radio:  Twins Radio Network

Is it just me, or is there some bizarre scheduling going on so far this year?  This will be the second two-game series of the week, third of the year.  Afternoon games on Wednesday or Thursday on a travel day?  Nope.

At any rate, the Baltimore Orioles play host to a mid-week mini-series.  Their run production is better than the Twins while their run prevention is worse.  Tonight they offer up southpaw Mark Hendrickson.  The 34-year old is with his fifth team since entering the league in 2002, and over the last few years has split time between the rotation and the bullpen.  Between walks and hits he allows plenty of base runners, so there's no reason the Twins shouldn't be able to KO him early.  Of course he hasn't had a good outing since his first start of the year, which means he's probably due.  It would figure that tonight would be the night he'd go seven innings and strike out eight without allowing a run.  Hendrickson offers a fastball in the upper-80's, a changeup in the lower-80's and a curveball in the mid-70's.  Every once in a while he'll mix in a slider/cut fastball.

Minnesota counters with Kevin Slowey, who battled through five rough innings his last time out.  The good news is that in his prior two outings he seemed to have gotten his act together, so here's hoping the rough night against Kansas City was just a bump in the road.

I'm glad Joe Mauer isn't in the lineup again.

Span-Tolbert-Harris is a front three that should strike fear into the heart of even the most stoic of pitcher’s hearts.

Yeah

Interesting line-up. I guess Harris is our best right-handed batter. Who knew?

Why I didn't get MLB Ticket this year

First game I’ve been able to watch for awhile because I live near DC/Baltimore …. And brilliant Gardy has Tolbert and Harris hitting 2-3? WTF is that?

The Orioles on the other hand have their best three hitters—Roberts, Jones-Markakis—hitting one two three.

Infuriating.

Suddenly it looks like RA Dickey being on the team is reeeeeeeeeeeeeal useful.

So can bringing up Tolbert do anything for our pitching too?

b/c right now they can use all the help they can get…

delay in the 2nd

Ouch again.

Well I don’t think it’s gotten completely out of hand yet, but it’s not too far away from that. Maybe he’ll recalibrate after the sun comes out.

Denard Span shows off the gun!

I think we can ink that man’s name in the leadoff spot for the next few years.

amen. He’s quickly become my favorite player. Plus it gives me hope that Trevor Plouffe could still come around.

aaaaand another intermission

Slowman just hasn’t really looked that good all season

Span pretty much Rocks, all we need is for him to coin the new “smell’em” slogan and light a fire under everyone

I think that has alot of potential

maybe with a silhouette of a player slumping on the bench?

Slowey has pitched

back to back great games! So your statement about him not looking good all season is kinda a falsehood.

by BCTwins on May 6, 2009 9:56 PM EDT up reply actions

his last outing vs the Royals

8 hits
5 runs, all earned
4 Ks

I wouldn’t say that was a great outing. But he was good the start before vs Cleveland

I was about to say...

He did have two back-to-back good outings. But the outing before that and the outing after that were poor. He has been the very picture of inconsistency.

JESUS GOMEZ STAY PUT

There are times to stand still, such as when you are on third base with one out.

you know what

I think it sucks that they stretched to play just enough so it counts…
I think they knew they’d never get 9 innings in

That's super lame

Really really lame we got screwed out of a chance to come back against their shitty pitching like that.
