Game 30: Twins vs. Seattle
Seattle Mariners at Minnesota Twins, May 8, 2009 8:10 PM EDT
If any readers will be in the bleachers tonight, here's hoping you have your batting helmets, gloves, and body armor ready; Scott Baker's on the mound, and you can't be too careful.
TV: FSN-HD
Radio: As usual, the Twins Radio Network, AM-1500 in the Cities.
Know Thine Enemy: Lookout Landing | USS Mariner
Starting Pitchers:
Chris Jakubausabaskusauskas Scouting Report:
He's a rookie - but he's 30 years old. The guy played for Oklahoma way back in the day - as a first baseman, not as a pitcher; following college, he had Tommy John surgery (and coached high school baseball), then knocked around independent leagues for four years. Finally, he got his shot with the Mariners last year, blew through Double-A and Triple-A, and got his chance with the big squad this year.
Jakubauskas started the year in the bullpen, making two appearances (including a scoreless two innings against the Twins), and has made three starts since moving to the rotation - losting all three.
He throws a lot of fastballs, most of them right around 88-91, and appears to throw a couple of different variations (cutter, four-seam, two-seam, etc.) as well. Beyond that, he'll toss up a few curves and changes, depending mostly on the curve to change speeds (he's thrown fewer than ten changeups in his three starts).
Special Bonus Idiotic Link of the Night: USS Mariner thinks that the Seattle front office should try to get Alexi Casilla AND Jose Mijares for Yuniesky Betancourt. You know, because the Twins are being run by drooling subhuman idiots who've never seen a baseball game before. Hey, I know! Maybe the Mariners will trade Adrian Beltre and Erik Bedard for Craig Breslow and a coupon for free stuffing with purchase of turkey!

Crede vs. Beltre (a little perspective)
Beltre:
.205 BA, 0 HR, 12 RBI, .242 OBP, .276 SLG, .514 OPS, 18 K, 5 BB
5 Errors, 86 TC
Crede:
.232 BA, 3 HR, 7 RBI, .308 OBP, .415 SLG, .722 OPS, 14 K, 9 BB
1 Error, 61 TC
Good Beltre is having an even more putrid first quarter than Crede,
That doesn’t make Crede’s first quarter any more palatable.

actually its quite nice
cause I have had to listen to Twins fans bitch about not getting Beltre and signing Crede. Its kinda nice to shove that right back in their faces.
Oh, I haven't heard (or seen) anyone on this site complain about not having Beltre over having Crede,
and it still doesn’t make Crede’s numbers any more palatable.

While I don't care because Beltre was WAY overpriced, so I was ardently against trading for him...
3 reasons why your “face shoving” is nearly pointless:
1. Saying “that player sucks even worse than our player sucks” isn’t very compelling;
2. Seattle is one of the few teams who are offensively more inept than the Twins, meaning the guys who hit immediately before Beltre and immediately after Beltre are worse than the guys in the same situation with Crede;
3. The main difference is three home runs by Crede. We are talking about 100 AB here. If Beltre had three home runs instead of three outs his numbers would be just as “good” as Crede’s. Check back in after 400 plate appearances.

before Beltre?
Ichiro > Span
Chavez > Tolber
Lopez < Mauer
Branyan < Morneau
Then the Twins usually put Kubel or Cuddyer in place before Crede. Top two batters stack up pretty well against the Twins top two.
Home runs are nice
they help you score runs
Damn...
We are putting in a SERIOUS dent in that crappy run differential now!!!
"I'm gonna make you cry...I'm gonna make you cry and dip my cookie in your tears!!!"
Scooty Puff Jr. needs to get it together...
I know we’re up huge, but he needs to avoid melting down again…
"I'm gonna make you cry...I'm gonna make you cry and dip my cookie in your tears!!!"
There we go...
you’re on your way to being Scooty Puff Sr.
"I'm gonna make you cry...I'm gonna make you cry and dip my cookie in your tears!!!"
Now THIS game...
is Ayala proof.
"I'm gonna make you cry...I'm gonna make you cry and dip my cookie in your tears!!!"
No game is Ayala-proof.
Just Ayala-retardant.
