Valencia promoted to Rochester
According to Seth, this blog's top prospect is one step away from the big leagues. This puts him in position to become Joe Crede's replacement in 2010.

too quick
Wouldn’t naming Valencia the opening day starter next year be an awfully fast move for the Twins?

Not rushing
I don’t think they’d be rushing him based on the following facts:
- Gardy said he was ready defensively this spring.
- About a month ago Smith said the only reason Valencia was still in New Britain is they wanted to give Hughes a chance to show what he can do at third. This indicates that the Hughes experiment is over.
- The Twins occasionally bring guys up from AA directly if they’re advanced. Granted the last two position players they did this for were Knoblauch and Mauer. But they have been known to do that.
- Valencia has been in AA for a full year after getting promoted from Fort Myers after last year’s FSL All Star Game.
- At 24, he’s not young for a prospect.

hooray
I’m glad to see that the org has faith in Valencia. How great would it be to have a legit young starter at 3B?
