Baker got hold of one there, but hits it right to Cameron in center. Sorry buddy.
4-0 through five-and-a-half. Keep it up, Baker…
Baker implodes

But at the same time,
you can’t pull your pitcher every time has a bad inning. You need your starters to get through some innings, especially when the bullpen isn’t always the most reliable. Baker is probably done now anyway, he’s at 91 pitches.
And another hit for Harris!!
Nice liner into the gap, but Cameron got over to cut it off. Span’s up to third, maybe we can get a run or two back right away.
Wow
This pitcher’s last 15 outs have been strikeouts. Sounds like he’s even making Mauer look silly.

Ha!
But he also makes his catcher look silly.

Bah!
That one bounced over the fence! Where’s the power?

I am so happy to have Span back
what a difference it is to have an actual lead off hitter. 4 times on base.
As for Baker…this is his career. He’ll have great K:BB ratios and give up homers. That’s the way it goes. He’s a flyball guy and he doesn’t have dominant stuff. I don’t understand what you all expect.
To the extent that he gives you a quality start, be happy about it.

This isn't Baker's career.
He’s never been hit for home runs at this rate in his career. 13% HR:FB ratio this year, 1.67 HR/9. And really, THAT is his only problem. Base runners are good (1.12 WHIP), strikeouts, walks…all good. But those gopher balls are killer.
To his credit, this makes it five quality starts in a row for him, and his first long ball given up in four starts. Maybe he’s getting back to being himself a bit more. That gives him seven on the year, but he only had two through his first nine starts.
A good finish to the season, then yeah, it is Scott Baker’s career. But in April and May it was torture watching him, and people (including me) are still a little jumpy when he starts giving up the home run.
Give me a little room for poetic license please Jesse
I was defending the guy.
Obviously he’s been better than this—he isn’t a 5 ERA guy. But the shape of this outing and his season is not unlike what he does—good Ks, low walks, lots of flyballs and homers. Sure, the homer rate is higher than it has been in the past, and will be in the future, but there’s nothing that isn’t in the spirit of his pitching style.

True...
To corroborate your “It’s not a bad thing!” point, a good comp in that respect is Brad Radke – gave up a ton of homers, but he didn’t walk anyone and struck out enough that he was still overall a good pitcher.

Having a lineup
with only one black hole (not counting the pitchers spot) is a huge upgrade over what’s been put out there sometimes during this year.
That's silly
He’s well capable of going longer when he’s pitching well. You want pristine, but you know, they pay the other guys too. Prince Fielder gets a lot of money to hit home runs. sometimes the bear eats you

Well, not exactly....
…as I mentioned two comments above, today makes five quality starts in a row for Baker. He’s getting better. Freaking out and pulling your pitcher on one bad inning is a bad way to run a rotation.
That works

Thank you
We all appreciate you not posting a picture to go with your “Dickey time” post.

I mean really
how does anyone even hit him, looking at that face/arm angle and the knuckleball to boot?
this is a family safe site
except for the bullpen arsonist picture of the guy wearing a helmet and heels…
that and few other FAIL pictures that have made the game thread
A little suprised they aren't going to Mijares here

It was outside
Hadn’t been called all day, and Mauer knew it. How many times does Joe Mauer argue?

I was really confused for a moment
I wasn’t paying attention to the radio very well, and I heard that Buscher was pinch hitting immediately after Morneau, and I was thinking, “What the hell?”
