Twins/Cardinals Game Thread
Twins are at St. Louis tonight for a three-game weekend set.
The Cardinals are in first in the NL Central, which is as weak as the AL Central.
The Twins are 5 games out of first place.
It will be fun to see two of the greatest hitters facing one another in this contest.
Glen Perkins faces off against Adam Wainwright.
So far, Perkins has done fine since coming off the DL.
Let's hope he keeps pitching well.

New Busch Stadium
It took me awhile to get used to the new Busch Stadium, but now I have grown to like that new ballpark.

C'mon Kubel!
Back-to-back walks, but with 2 outs.
The Twins have scored first in the first running ten straight times.
Can they make it 11 in a row?

Correction
10 straight times on the road not 10 in a row.

Make it 11
Kubel gets a RBI.
1-0, Twins!
Good job by Jason in getting the first run of the game.
Always nice to start the game with a lead. It gives the starters a peace of mind.

Another run
2-0, Twins
Cuddy gets on first on Thurston’s error at third.
That should have been the final out.

End of inning
Good to get two runs on the board to start the game.
Go get em, Glen!

Twins Nation
There may not be such thing as Gophers Nation, but there is such thing as Twins Nation.
Many Twins fans are at Busch for the weekend.
It’s always nice to see the Twins fans showing up on the road.
Often times, we hear about how well the Yankees fans and the Red Sox fans travel, but the Twins fans travel as well as any AL fanbase in baseball.
Good job by the Twins fans.

Facing Pujols
If a starter wants to battle Pujols, make sure there is no runner on base.
Perkins has adhered to the rule by getting the first two outs.

Pujols makes it easy!
Good thing Glen has two outs.
That hit by Pujols was a beauty, and it was good enough for him to get a double.

Good first inning by Glen
This is what you like to see.
A team giving the pitcher some runs to work with, and the pitcher rewards the team by throwing a zero on the board when it’s his turn to pitch the next inning.

So much for another run
Matt started the hit, and couple of hitters advanced him to each base.
The Twins made the final out, and Glen is back pitching.
Wainwright settled down in that inning.

Two-for-two
Good second inning by Glen.
He is getting his outs through the groundball.

Mauer vs. Pujols
This series will focus on both hitters, who are the best in their league.
Pujols has 1 hit
Mauer now has a hit with a walk to go with it.

What was that?
C’mon, Jason.
That hit attempt was weak.

Detroit is rolling along
Tigers lead the Astros 4-0.
Will they ever lose?
At least, the Bitch Sox lost.

Ainkel with the nice throw
Mauer was going to score, but Ainkel threw a nice bullet to the catcher to get Mauer out to end the inning.
I love Bert’s reaction after the play when he said Ainkel never threw like that on the mound. I was cracking up.
2-0 Twins!

Next weekend's series
The Tigers at the Dome next weekend.
This is going to be big because either Detroit starts running away in the division or the Twins are within striking distance. The Twins have to take advantage of this one.

Perkins is sharp
Three in the books.
Three zeroes on the scoreboard for the Cardinals.
Glen has retired 5 Cards in a row, and he has struck out 3 hitters.
I didn’t think Perkins would have that easy of a time against the Cards hitters so far. We’ll see how he does in his second crack of their hitters.
I like what I am seeing though. He is throwing strikes, and he is getting out of the inning fast.

Wainwright has settled down
After a rough first inning, Wainwright has been pitching well.

Perkins keep mowing em down
A workless fourth inning for Glen.
He even got Pujols out.
I think he is even better now than what he has done in the past two innings.

Bremer's lovefest with Mauer
If Aaron Gleeman has an issue with Bremer fawning over Punto, then I wonder what he thinks about Bremer fawning over Mauer. Lately, Bremer just talks about Mauer’s greatness as if we don’t even know.
He goes on and on and on on every Twins telecast.
Give it a rest, Dick.

Low pitch count
Perkins threw 50 pitches through five innings.
37 out of 50 were strikes.
I love that ratio, and I love his pitch count.
Anything the relievers don’t have to be used, it’s a great thing.

Game reset
After 5, it’s the Twins leading the Cards, 2-0.
Kubel’s RBI single sent Mauer home for the first run in the first..
The Twins tagged in another run in that first inning.
Glen Perkins has been the story of this game so far in throwing five shutout innings against a good Cardinals hitting lineup.

Put another run on the board
The Twins tack in a run in the sixth inning on Cuddyer’s single.
3-0, Twins.

Story of the game
It has to be Glen Perkins.
Six shutout innings tonight at St. Louis.
He has done well with the lead.
I like to see him go get a complete game or at least go through eight.

Nice catch by Albert
He makes a catch from the seat of his pants, and throws Mauer out.
It’s only fitting you see this from a great hitter getting another good hitter out.

Best baseball town
Dick Bremer was talking about which is the best baseball town, and he was talking St. Louis up.
Boston is the best baseball town IMO.
St. Louis is a solid baseball town, but it’s not in the level of Boston.
Boston is a great baseball town because those fans are so into the Red Sox. I went to Boston last year, and I was amazed at the knowledge of the fans when it came to the history of the Red Sox. They know a lot about the team from past to present. They also make the other team feel uncomfortable when they go to Fenway Park.
It just seems there is more energy at Fenway than it is at Busch Stadium, and that’s what constitutes a good baseball town.

Perkins digs deep
He had his worst inning of the night, but he came out strong in the end. He was able to get the last two outs, and he is out of the inning.
I wonder if he is going to pitch in the eighth. He could be gone because Mijares hasn’t pitched in recent days so he needs work. If he can pitch one more inning, I will be very happy, and then you can give the ball to the Nathanator.

What is Gardenhire thinking?
Matt Guerrier pitched yesterday so why he is pitching tonight’s game?
I don’t get it. First of all, this is Mijares’s game. He does eighth innings.
Second of all, Guerrier never does well on back-to-back games.
This is so stupid.

Gardy gets it right
Gardy is a genius.
He gets Guerrier after one out, and he inserts Mijares to pitch.
Mijares get a DP.
Inning over.
Great job by Mijares and Guerrier, and great move by Gardy.

Nathan vs. Albert
Was worth the money by itself. Albert doesn’t strike out much at all for a slugger, but Joe got ahead and got him with a low slider. Outstanding.
