You and everybody.

One guy on my team got the Martian Death Valley Flu, or something like that. Clearly a higher power is trying to strike my crappy team down.

This past week

I think I was positive for most of the week.

I raved about Glen Perkins for Saturday’s entry.
I talked about Denard’s good day the other day.

It may have been a record for me.

I know Nick Nelson has issues with me being negative.

Royals

What is it about the Royals that play like world champs against the Twins?

by Loon on Jun 29, 2009 10:01 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I understand that

but this happens all the time.

Royals have played well against the Twins this year, last year, and two years ago.

The Royals were the reason why the Twins did not qualify for the playoffs last year. I know much was made of Game 163, but the Royals played a role by playing well in the first two games of the final weekend series of the regular season. The Royals just play their best against the Twins.

I love your optimism

I wish I had that trait.

I am a piss-and-vinegar guy.

That’s what happens when Minnesota sports teams disappoint.

Hochevar is on a roll. He can go for eight, and then Soria comes in.

by Loon on Jun 29, 2009 10:07 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

ya

we might get our 2nd hit here this inning. :/

the point is, is that it’s a 3 run defecit. We need Dickey for more high leverage situations. Keppel’s probably not available today yet after his 4 run stint. Perfect game to give Henn some work.

by ajmargarine on Jun 29, 2009 10:08 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

plus

this’ll be Dickey’s 3rd game in a row worked and 7th in the last 10 games. I know Gardy thinks he’s got a mythical rubber arm, but that’s alot

103 pitches

I think this is going to be it for Nicky.

There won’t be him going to seventh or eighth inning.

Hochevar

He has been the story of this game.

After struggling the first few innings, he has been pitching well.

Flashback to "Little Big League"

Remember when Billy gets all excited after that veteran hits a seeing-eye single? And the hitting coach calls him on it?

I got excited when I saw that Delmon hit, but it was rather pathetic. It’s time to let him loose. He can’t be successful in Minnesota.

he’s gotta be worth something in a trade. Not much granted. But I’d rather see him spend a significant amount of time on our bench than just DFA his ass.

This is so funny

Gardy goes from rarely using Dickey and then in mostly mop up situations. Then he realizes, AFTER TWO MONTHS, that hey, he’s pitching pretty OK. Now he’s pitched in 7 of the last 10 games.

Plus, just because he throws a knuckleball, that doesn’t mean he can’t be overused.

by ajmargarine on Jun 29, 2009 10:16 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I agree

I don’t want Dickey to start being overused like Gardy does with other relievers.

Gardenhire sure likes to run his relievers into the ground by using them everyday.

Dickey has been good, but it does not mean he goes out and be destroyed too.

Henn or Keppel should have pitched here.

by Loon on Jun 29, 2009 10:19 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

keppel can't be available after going 4 inn 2 days ago

granted, this isn’t a huge deal or a huge mistake.

But, chances are about 75% that someone other than Dickey pitches the 8th. That’s where the mistake is going to be

by ajmargarine on Jun 29, 2009 10:21 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He’s two outs away. He’s given up two hits and no runs or walks. Eight strikeouts.

by Jon Marthaler on Jun 29, 2009 10:33 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Oh of course

The talent is there. I think the Twins are the best team in the division, and that’s what makes it so frustrating. The Twins just find ways to lose. I just wonder if they have it in them to be champions when it matter. They choke when it matters. I have always ranted about the team on your fine blog, Jon.

I’ve had enough of this “Royals own the Twins stuff”

We were 12-6 against them last year if I counted correctly, and only lost one of the series.
