Pirates selling: Sanchez next?
How about Delmon, Casilla and Ayala for Sanchez?

No.
I’d like to see Delmon develop more value, to me this is paying WAY too much for a one year rental of a doubles and singles machine.
That is a lot for a half-year rental.
If we were more certain of our ability to re-sign Sanchez I would do it in a heartbeat, though.

Team option...
For next year @ $8 mil, so Twins can keep him for another year at that price if they want. Also, the option vests if he reaches 635 PA, which he is easily on target to do if he stays healthy.

Hell I would
trade:
Punto
Tolbert
Delmon
Ayala
Buscher
and Casilla
for:
Sanchez (if we can resign him for another year or if he has an option)
and some dunkin donuts.
Well,
I certainly am glad that you are not the Twins GM.

well I am glad
rhat you arent the Twins GM either…none of the posters here can handle the pressure of it. We all may criticize Smith but we do it without realizing that Smith is under a lot of pressure. It takes a lot of work to work out a trade, although most people here seem to think that it is just a phonecall to get Ellsbury and Lowrie for Santana…it doesnt work that way!
Thank you for explaining that
and setting us all straight (or at least me), because I, for one, have been toiling under the delusion that all it took was a phone call.. as you can see from my previous posts:
2006: “Why hasn’t Mr. Ryan called Alex Rodriguez and asked him to join the Twins?”
2007: “Ryan asleep at the phone; should have called Hunter’s agent and offered more Oreos”
2008: “Bill Smith:Ineptitude Personified, gave up Garza and Bartlett when all he had to do was ask politely”
Earlier this year: “Someone get Smith a Phone!; Pirates would give us Sanchez If Smith Would JUST ASK!”
Over on the Vikings blog I noted that the Vikings needa wide receiver for our quarterbacks to throw to, and Terrell Owens has a cell phone…whats the f’ing problem?

Nice
If I’d been in the middle of a drink of coffee, you’d owe me a keyboard.

No I wouldnt' do that trade it basically be like trading
Matt Garza, Eduardo Morlan and Jason Bartlett or at least Nick Punto
for Freddy Sanchez – no way

I probably wouldn't do the trade either
but we shouldn’t be substituting Garza-Morlan-Bartlett for Young when considering future trades. Yes, we’re all pretty much in agreement that if we had it to do over, hindsight 20/20, we probably would not make that trade. The problem is, we made the trade. It’s done. There’s no undoing it.
I suspect we can all pretty much agree as well that Delmon Young’s stock has dropped a ton since we traded for him. In a year and a half, he’s “produced” a total of 18.5 runs below replacement (15 this year alone). If we paid $1.00 for him, he’s probably worth about a dime right now. If someone were to offer me a quarter, I’d take it and run to the bank…

Funny you would mention this, because I recently traded Young Casilla and Ayalla to the Pirates for Sanchez. Of course it’s just a video game, but I thought it was a pretty fair deal.
Sanchez will not be a free agent next year, he has a vesting option that triggers at 635 PA. He will make $8M in 2010. He is still owed a little more than $3M for the rest of 2009. If the twins agreed to take on the entire $11M I don’t think they’d have to give up a ton. Something like Casilla and Mulvey. Felipe Lopez would also be an upgrade at 2B and might cost a little less.
Did anyone see the small footnote to this article...
Garrett Jones gets the nod to replace Hinske on the big league roster.
Just a small “former Twin” note.
