If the Twins could pull off something for Freddy Sanchez THAT would be huge. He’s a great player. No doubt would be a huge UPgrade.
But, how could the Twins and Bill “tubby” Smith pull it off.
Delmon and Casilla or Delmon and Crain
I could live with both ideas. You??

Sanchez is a free agent to be
Actually, Sanchez could be a free agent. There is a club option for $8M. He can lock in the option with 635 plate appearances.
What would it take to get Sanchez? Certainly, taking on his contract would be huge. The Pirates probably would be interested in Casilla, not so much in Young or Crain. Casilla plus a good prospect might be enough, if the Twins take Freddy’s contract.

Clint Barmes
He is in a real streak right now. He has his average up to .290 and his OPS over .800. Barmes is 30, cheap (1.65M) but arb eligible. He has driven Atkins to the bench for now. Barmes would be bound to his club through the 2010 season and he can play both second base and shortstop. I think he would have a Harris-like line as a hitter, but he is a better fielder. If the Twins could acquire Barmes without losing a top prospect, it is a trade the Twins should make.
