The A.J. Pierzynski-for-Joe Nathan, Boof Bonser and Francisco Liriano deal took place precisely one month prior to the Mohr/Thomas trade, which bumped that one off the list.  Castillo to the Mets has almost been forgotten in the wake of Santana.  Also, Brian Buchanon-Jason Bartlett trade happened a year before the Sears/Garcia pointless swap.

It might be interesting at some point to go through the trades team-by-team, to see who's gotten the best out of the team-to-team swaps over the years.

Kansas City is sort of Minnesota's Iran

Looks like the Twins ceased all top-level communication with the Royals after their 1974 revolution.

False

It’s Garza/Young, and it’s not even close.

It’s been suggested that the Garza/Bartlett for Young/Harris trade is this organization’s Hershel Walker trade. That’s a bit extreme, but it is clearly the organization’s worst trade since it sold Jim Kaat to the White Sox for $500, and he won 20 games in two consecutive years afterward.

If the Lohse trade were a win for the Reds, they would have kept him. They gladly let him go to free agency.

Kaat

Always wondered about that deal. bb-ref says we let him go for the waiver claim.

He had an odd 1973 season. He had a one-hitter on July 1st and a CG-SHO on July 18th. We got beat up for five runs in 6.2 IP in his next start but won. And then in his next five starts he went 0-3 with a 12.64 ERA in just 15.2 IP. He got chased with none out in the 2nd in each of his final two starts.

I guess in Chicago he was reunited with an old pitching coach (Johnny Sain) which evidently got him out of his funk.
