Duensing Up; Henn Down
I swear I'm not a twitter junkie (OK, maybe I am...), but this is from Kelly Thesier's twitter page (I think she tends to post news there before she writes the full articles):
kellythesier#Twins to recall LHP Brian Duensing from AAA Rochester. To make room, they've outrighted LHP Sean Hean to Roch.
Thoughts? I think this has to make our bullpen better in the short term, but a veteran solution via trade would suuuure be nice right now.

George Sherrill
is being shopped by the O’s…that would be a nice get. Probably out of the Twins price range though, because everyone is looking for arms.
Fuck tOSU

Henn was never the answer
Meanwhile Breslow has a 2.30 ERA and .96 WHIP in Oakland…
Breslow still sucks
Don’t let the ERA fool you. Breslow is still having control problems (4.4 bb/9 in June). SSS.
Besides, Breslow’s control with the Twins was horrendous — I don’t blame the Twins for dumping him and trying someone else. In April, Breslow walked 6 guys in 6 IP.
It seems to me they gave up on him to early
6 IP is not that much. It’s not like 36 walks in 36 innings. I would rather have Breslow over Henn. Maybe Duensing can find a role and we never think about Breslow again.
sample sizes
WHIP includes walks. I’m just saying the Henn move didn’t look like an upgrade at the time and lo and behold it wasn’t. This looks like an upgrade over Henn but still the 2nd lefty in the bullpen isn’t going to be a strong reason for a playoff push.
Why wait so long
Henn’s made one appearance for 1/3 inning in the last 12 days. The Twins were/are thinking about sending him down? or had this move in mind?
This move is probably so we have a dedicated long reliever
I’m not sure Henn was more than a 2 inning guy? He doesn’t seem the type to come in in the 3rd when a starter gets rocked and pitch 5 innings to save the bullpen. I think he’s always been a short reliever type.
With Gardy using Dickey in middle relief and likely falling in love with Keppel, he needs a long man and that’s Duensing.
Henn
He looked pretty good for most of his early appearances. He got hit a little bit and seemed to lose confidence. He seemed to be “pitching scared”, walking too many and then throwing too many over the heart of the plate. I think he’s got decent stuff, but he has to hit his spots like 99% of major league pitchers.

I haven't seen this reported as such
but iirc Henn was out of options. So he had to be designated for assignment, passed thru waivers, and then accepted assignment to AAA. He’s currently not listed on the 40-man roster which is how it’d be if he was designated.
Did he have enough service time?
I think all of that is correct, other than maybe him accepting the assignment – I was under the impression that there’s a minimum amount of major league service required to decline a minor league assignment and become an unrestricted free agent.

Second time
If you are DFAd twice in the same year, you can decline the assignment the second time and become a free agent. It doesn’t make a lot of sense because, if nobody claimed you off waivers, nobody will sign you to a FA deal either. His best bet is to accept the assignment and pitch better.

Gracias
Thanks for the info.

Matt Capps RHP, Jon Grabow LHP
are both available of Pittsburgh and the Twins are looking at this pair
Grabow is signed through 2009 and thats it
but Capps , who would be a decent 7th inning option in his own right is Signed through 2012 – NOW that would be nice, hes Kevin Gregg like…. IMO
