Is David Eckstein A Backup Option?
Joe C says he is, should the price for primary targets like Freddy Sanchez, Marco Scutaro or Orlando Cabrera float too high.

He should not be an option.
You might as well go slap Mauer, Nathan, and Morneau in the face if this is how you show them we are committed to winning. What an insult that would be!

Ugh
Talk about a why bother situation. He’s more or less Nick Punto.
It would irritate me if they did this, actually, and pretended like it was actually doing something. It’s not doing anything, and it’s costing you a roster spot and a C prospect.

Although LDE is probably gritty as all heck.

2 Nick Punto's
is just not okay.
We would have LNP and LDE.

Knoblauch
I say we try and get Chuck Knoblauch out of retirement while we’re at it. He’s probably younger than Eckstien.
sigh
it only makes sense b/c it wouldn’t surprise me, but practically what would we gain? we’ve got plenty of “grit” on this team and grudzy working his way up. slap in the face to joe/joe/justin but also to fans. they can’t really think we’ll support this crap again?!
Meh
He’s an upgrade over Casilla, but he isn’t what we would hope for as fans who want a winner. I’d rather wait for Gudnzy, to be honest.

TRUE GRIT
People, the man is a WORLD SERIES MVP, so he KNOWS HOW TO WIN and provides critical SCRAPPINESS. He can be counted on to GET HIS UNIFORM DIRTY and PLAY THE GAME THE RIGHT WAY. He is ALWAYS HUSTLING, so he WON’T CLOG UP THE BASES. He routinely leads the major leagues in GRIT, HEART, and GUTS.
After writing all that, I believe I need to VOMIT.

Steve Lombardozzi came within a couple of Viola Ks of winning the WS MVP
And he was on my list of 15 worst all-time Twins, by the numbers (when I was trying to prove that Punto belongs on the top of the list).

Eckstein = Replacement
He’s pretty much been a replacement player, below average offense and defense the past two years. What’s scary is Punto and Casilla have been worse. In Casilla’s case, much worse this year.
No thanks. I’d rather bring Tolleson up and give him a shot than trade for Eckstein.
