Twins Policy
No contract negotiations during the season. The Morneau and Cuddyer extensions happened around arbitration time, just after the first of the year, so I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t find out more about Mauer until then.

This
As I’ve been saying, Joe Mauer isn’t a choice for this team, he’s a 100% organizational imperative. This will happen because it must.

It doesn't have to be right now.
But I’m hoping it’s wrapped up before Joe takes a bite of Thanksgiving turkey. Lofty dreams, I know. But sooner the better.

O.K.
I know what a manager is and does, I know what a G.M. is and does – and I know the basics between the relationship/authority between the two of them within an organization (I think). But I admit I do not know much of anything about a “Team President”, what he does, or how what he does relates to Gardenhire and Smith…

Team president is where the buck stops
GM and team president agree on a plan for the team. The GM has plenty of authority and ability to make changes within that plan but if the GM wants to go over budget , trade Justin Morneau or sign Barry Bonds he’d better talk to the team president. Team president is in charge of making money for the owner. That means maximizing stadium, broadcast and attendance revenue. GM is in charge of winning ballgames.
