40 man roster decisions
Well, the season is almost over and the Twins have a ton of players they must decide on for the 40 man.
Check out my blog for a post i did on the 40 man roster.
More questions than answers as alot of folks need to be protected or could be lost.

Who would you like to see the Twins keep? Who should they let go?
Feedback encouraged!
Thanks, Shawn

Yes there will be lots of tough decisions to make this fall...
…but you cannot begin this analysis be eliminating players such as Punto and Young from the list. They are Twins and will be on the 40-man roster until such time as they are traded or subsequent years when they become free agents. With that said, I do agree that they need to do something with the 5-outfielder situation and use one (my preference would be Young) as part of a trade to bring another needed piece.
Many of the last group you sited were eligible last year, performed well this past season and will be exposed and most likely not taken by anyone. I have been talking to Seth about this topic and I believe that Rene Tosoni is not elibible this year. If he were, he would most definitely be added. Expect there will be about 5 or 6 more players added before December, some of whom we may be surprised.
Tosoni
I wasn’t sure if he is eligible….. looked borderline based on birthday and service-time. I As far as Young and Punto goes, I imagine they will both be on the roster, Young potnetially traded.

40-man
Need to be added back: Boof, Slowey, Neshek.
Free agents: Pavano, Cabrera, Mahay, Redmond, Crede. Twins won’t do anything with these guys until after the 40-man roster is set.
Arbitration bubble: Boof, Perkins, Neshek, Harris, Crain and a few more, but these are the guys that the Twins have to make some decisions on.
Do any have options? What kind of demands do you egt from Boof or Nehsek. Do you cut Harris and keep the cheaper Tolbert? Perkins seems in the doghouse. Crain…another long-term contract?
Guys disappearing: Huber, Buscher, Keppel, Pridie, Butera. The Twins will probably cut ties with Highes and D. Romero. Doubt that gabino will be kept over others.
You want to add in Valencia, Delaney, Guerra and Burnett…usually AFL guys make the 40-man. Only others from your list of possible losses to consider are Waldrop, Robbins and Lis. Maybe Winfree is a keeper. Dinkelman and Singleton depend on status of Tolbert/Harris/Tolleson (too many back-up infielders).
Wish the Twins ahd taken a look at Butera, Plouffe and Valenca this September. Even a small looksee.
I don’t see any grat losses in the Rule 5. If the Twins suffer, it might be losing 2-3 A-ball guys to the minor league portion of the draft. But they can always compensate and drfat out of someone else’s teams, too.

I say we deal
3B/SS Brendon Harris, P Glen Perkins, and Minor leaguer (maybe Alex Burnett)
+ Jason Pridie
for SS J.J. Hardy
Brewers are then filled out pretty well:
3B Gamel/ Harris platoon
SS Alcides Escobar
2B Rickie Weeks
1B Prince Fielder
-
Casey McGhee
and Craig Counsel are still there
Bill Hall ???
OF Ryan Braun
OF MIke Cameron
OF Corey Hart
-
Jason Pridie
Rotation:
Gallardo
Suppon/ FA/ Sheets/ Westbrook
Parra
Perkins
Bush
Hoffman
Weathers/ Coffey
Narveson
Stetter
McClung
Looper
Villanueva
Deolis Guerra = Daniel Cabrera ?
I tend to think so
